Re: [Veritas-bu] Catalog Recovery 6.5.5

Try doing basic name resolution troubleshooting. Also use bptestbpcd as a
test to see if the Master can even communicate with itself. Nbemmcmd
-listhosts -verbose is also a good command to see if your server is
working correctly.

Hi Justin

I thought Gideon had cracked this with bprd not running but it goes deeper
than that. I restarted all the processes and bprd is running but still
I've a code 25 error.
This is a DR system that's recovered the catalog from tape in the past and
has worked fine, last DR exercise was October with no problems.
I think your right and it should be a fresh install, I should have done
that to start.

Cheers

Hi,

Where is the DR catalog you are trying to recover from?
Local disk?
Tape?

Normally in a DR environment you should have it all setup (e.g., a fresh
install) and ensure everything is working and ready to go (then it should
not impact the DR process), once that's done then re-attempt the recovery
again.

Justin.

Hi All,

Sorry for late replay. It has run when we have changed the secondary
copy as primary copy. No need to do anything else more like changing
'DR' file. Just right click on Secondary copy and then do it as primary
copy, that's it.

FYI.

Hi All,

I've prepared a test environment. I got 2 copies of catalog backup by
'Multiple Copies' option on the Schedule.

Now, I got 2 copies. One of them is primary (Copy1) and the other one is
secondary (Copy2), ok.

I've installed new master server and I'd like to recover my catalog
backup to it.

When I try the Catalog Recovery by Copy 1 (Primary), everything is OK,
it restores successfully as I want.

But when I try it by Cop2 (Secondary), It requests Copy1 Media! If I wan
I can change status of media.

But what I exact want is Recovering Catalog by Copy 2. Is there any way?

If you have comment let me know please.

Many Thanks.

Re: [Veritas-bu] Catalog Recovery by Copy 2 media (Secondary)

2008-11-10 Thread Bryan S. Leaman
I ran into the same problem with our duplicate Vault catalog backup. I
tried using the wizard, but for the second part of the recovery it looked
for the first tape. I also tried editing the DR file to promote the
secondary to the primary, but that also did not work.

I opened a case with Symantec, and was told that you need to follow the
"Disaster Recovery Procedure without the DR Image File" method described
in the DR E-mail. However, before proceeding with the "bprecover -r
-nbdb" step, you need to use bpchangeprimary to promote the secondary to
the primary.

If you try this, please let us know how it works. I don't have a test
environment right now so I haven't tried it yet.

You need to promote the second copy as the primary to restore from it.

Check the manual for promoting the secondary copy.

[Veritas-bu] Catalog Recovery in 6.0

2008-11-05 Thread Randy Samora
I ran a backup of my catalog on my old Master and saved it to the E:
drive. Now I'm trying to recover the catalog on the new Master (same
name) but it was taking too long to copy the catalog backup over to the
new server. I ran the backup to disk on the old server. When I start
the recovery, NetBackup finds the DR file but when the recovery starts,
I get an error 83. I'm about to call Symantec but I was wondering if
anyone else has run into this problem. Does NetBackup think the catalog
backup is stored locally on the new server on Drive E:? Is it possible
to restore from a mapped drive in Windows? I've been up for the past 5
hours working on this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
