Re: [Veritas-bu] License question
I believe it will yes :-) I don't believe there is an issue with this (at least not from what I can see about it here) Regards Simon Weaver 3rd Line Technical Support Windows Domain Administrator EADS Astrium Limited, B23AA IM (DCS) Anchorage Road, Portsmouth, PO3 5PU Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: Dariusz Klar [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 27 July 2006 15:40 To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: [Veritas-bu] License question Hi gurus, I've tried to search the old posts using http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/cgi-bin/htsearch? but didn't found any interesting information. Re: [Veritas-bu] license question re NDMP backup
Hello, I´m new in the block. Regarding your problem I do have the same scenario as you. The trick is to add NDMPlicense on your NetBackup (BP) server. It should solve the problem. In the veritas support webpage look for Veritas Netbackup 4.5for NDMP. I know you might have a newer version of BP but it will be very useful. I hope this is useful Marcos DeLima System Engineer Phones C +55 11 856532409 W + 55 11 35236683 Date: Wed, 5 Jul 2006 10:03:57 +1000 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: [Veritas-bu] license question re NDMP backup HiAll ImfigureImmorelikelytogetthecorrectanswerherethenfrom veritas/semantic. Re: [Veritas-bu] license question re NDMP backup
My understanding is that the very latest DataONTAP (7.1.1) and NetBackup 6 versions have finally addressed the problem of sharing the drive. However I also thought I read that with NetBackup 6 the drive if on the server no longer needs to be dedicated to NDMP anyhow - what was broken was the sharing of a drive connected to both a NetApp and non-NDMP media servers. Read this, newly updated: http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/251713.htm Note: Shared Storage Option (SSO) for NDMP in NetBackup 6.0 may be used with any of the vendors’ software listed below if the software supports remote NDMP and remote NDMP is used for the backup. I.e. the Veritas NDMP mover agent is SSO-aware. It says that DataONTAP 7.1.1: NetBackup Shared Storage Option – NDMP hosts and media servers can share tape drives If you are on NetBackup 5, then there is no problem controlling it with NetBackup - that is 'normal' NDMP backup. You don't have to have the robotics on the NetApp if you don't want to. I'd check the compatibility carefully, avoid Multi-LUN tape units unless sure they will work. If this is a new drive, you need a library based tape drive licence only - you must already have the NDMP licence. I have a netapp filter (a cluster actually) that I currently backup using ndmp to the tape library attached to the (windows) master server. One of the drives is configured as an ndmp drive. The need to have one drive configured as ndmp is kill us and I believe from info on this group that this is still not resolved with netbackup 6 and netapp. So I need another soln. If I was to directly attach a tape library to one of the netapp filer heads, would netbackup be able to control the library? Would i need another licenses beside the license for another library based drive? thanks BB -- Bevan Broun Systems Engineer THALES Services Division W: (02) 9562 2861 M: 0407 225 492 F: (02) 9562 2857 DISCLAIMER:--- This Email may contain confidential and/or privileged information and is intended solely for the addressee(s) named.
