Netbackup does this if you have it configured to do so. You need to have entries on your clients to allow access from all of your media servers, else you'll end up with Status 59. then you create your STUs for each media server, create a STU-Group that contains all of those STUs, and configure your policies to use the STU-Group. works a treat. Ah I was looking for the equivalent of FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER but only when the exsiting restore media server is busy. This would make a lot of sense, yes? It makes a ton of sense! And, other data protection application vendors get it. I was performing a bake-off with another vendor and I inadvertently left 5 out of 6 media servers powered off. Justin, I think you are misinterpreting the parameter. It has nothing to do with how busy a server is... The key word is "inaccessible". If you need a temporary solution, look at bpmedia -movedb... you can "move" the server so that you can complete the restore, then move back. I though I heard at one point that this whole media "ownership" thing was going to go away. I just don't know when. That way, if you kick off a restore, it sounds like it would try to use the original host, else, find one that is available so I can just get the restore done...
