Re: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup 6.5.4 Upgrade

2009-10-01 Thread Bluejay
I wanted to find out from anyone that has upgraded from 6.5.3.1 to
6.5.4 if the upgrade increased stability on EMM or were there new
bugs that are far worse than the EMM issues?

I'm upgrading the last of my media servers to 6.5.4 today.

The only issue I've come across with 6.5.4 is that if a restore requests a
tape that's not in any of my libraries, nbrb gets hung up and I have to
restart NetBackup. I have a case open with Symantec on this. It may be
peculiar to my Tru64 master server.

You'll probably want to review

Re: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup 6.5.4 Upgrade

2009-10-01 Thread Wilcox, Donald A (GE, Research)
I recently upgraded from 6.5.3 to 6.5.4 and did run into an issue with
vault. The issue is with the Keyword used for archives. There has always
been a character limit of 127 but previously was just truncated and
continued. Now at 6.5.4, the limit is enforced and if the keyword is longer
than 127 characters, the vault will not work. Below is what I had to do to
fix the issue:

I ran the command : bpimagelist -l -d 1/1/1970 C:\TEMP\bpimagelist.txt

If this fails with : Text Eceeded Allowed Length

Changes to the image header for keyword has to be fixed. The rerun the
command. When this command succeeds, the vault will work again.

Hi,

The 6.5.4 server software seems to be an improvement over earlier 6.5.x
releases. However, for the client (if you backup windows hosts/DFSR), the
6.5.3+registry hack should still be used, 6.5.4 still has problems and
Symantec is working with MSOFT on the problem.

Thanks for that information, maybe once I get more responses I will get a
better idea if to suggest this upgrade.
