[Veritas-bu] Symantec Device Driver Package or Official HP Vendor Drivers

2009-09-30 Thread WEAVER, Simon (external)
Hi everyone,
Back in the early days of 3.x of NetBackup, there was always a
requirement to use the Veritas Approved Drivers for NetBackup.

With 6.0 and onwards, is this still a real requirment? I have been going
ahead and using the latest HP / IBM Vendor drivers where required, and
to date, have never had a problem.
Just wanted to get an idea if there is a preference or is this now
considered an option if you do not have the drivers available?

Thanks all

Regards

Simon

2009-09-30 Thread Ed Wilts
The trend from Symantec, and other vendors, has been to away from providing
their own device drivers. We saw that with the OTM to VSP to VSS migration
and we are also seeing with tape drivers - Symantec does not even have a
tape driver package for 64-bit Windows.

Our our Windows media server, we've been installing the HP tape drivers and
it's been working fine. It's been that way for a couple of years or more.

Hi Ed
I completely agree. All of my robots are using the official Tape
Drivers, and as you said, they dont do it for x64 either.
Like you , have been using the official ones since 2005 and its never
caused an issue.
