[Veritas-bu] Version 6.5 Transferring image files between Master Servers
I'm currently using NetBackup 5.1 and able to copy image files between master servers to facilitate restores at the other site. Have done this for years. Just copying images files to alternate master server place media into the other site's library and in a special pool, and modify the client bp.conf and begin restoring. Now have to get all master servers upgraded to Netbackup 6.5 then onto Netbackup 7.x. Will I be able to continue to perform this shortcut and have it work? +-- |This was sent by bt...@comcast.net via Backup Central. |Forward SPAM to ab...@backupcentral.com. +-- ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

Yes, you can continue to work that way. -Original Message- From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of lookn4me Sent: Thursday, March 04, 2010 6:16 PM To: VERITAS-BU@MAILMAN.ENG.AUBURN.EDU Subject: [Veritas-bu] Version 6.5 Transferring image files between Master Servers I'm currently using NetBackup 5.1 and able to copy image files between master servers to facilitate restores at the other site. Hi smpt1, do you mean the image files is the Netbackup db catalog files that was stored a the default installation path /usr/openv/netbackup/db?Can I just do a solaris cp command to copy the files to another path? Do I need to shutdown the netbackup services by running # netbackup stop command before doing the copy.? thank you. -- */Regards,/* Calvin Chen W. Re: [Veritas-bu] Version 6.5 Transferring image files between Master Servers
Hi, Check this paper eval.symantec.com\mktginfo\products\White_Papers\Data_Protection\nbu_wp_repl icatingbucatalogs_103003.pdf Basically you have to a) Move the tapes to the DR server's library and do an inventory. If the DR server is in use for backups, you MUST have different barcodes and media IDs. b) Move the tapes to a new pool. The server thinks that the tapes are empty and may select them for backups. If you do not do it there is a potential DATA LOSS. c) Copy the images from the master server to the DR master server. I do not think that you have to close netbackup to do it. If you copy only the images you want to use, keep the directory structure. d) Use media host override from the DR master server's host properties to change the restore server. e) As restore checks only the image database to do restores, you can restore your data. The images must expire automatically. stefanos From: Calvin Chen W. K.
