I've seen the sysadmins be mistaken... I suspect the cluster has
transitioned and the SA didn't put the right volumes in the cluster group or
the name didn't fail over with the volumes.

If you're running 7.0, do this:

>From the master server:

# bpcoverage -c

With 6.5, bpcoverage will show you disks that are on the other node in the
cluster. It looks like 7.0 fixed that.

So, with 6.x, do this:

# bpgetconfig -M CLIENT_NAME

This will tell you which system NetBackup is expecting to find the drives
on.

Once you've got the real host for the client, browse to it and make sure the
volumes really are on that host. If you don't have direct access to the
client, go to your admin console, open up the Backup Selections tab, and hit
the folder button. Drill down and see if you can see any folders. If you
can't, the disks are probably not on that system.

[Veritas-bu] Error 71

2010-12-29 Thread ccosta . ccc
Can anyone help.

We have a 2-node Windows 2008 clustered client. I have two policies configured:
one policy has the real host names and local drives (C: / D: ). The other
policy has the virtual cluster name and shared drives configured.

Both policies were working fine for months. Now the policy with the virtual
clustered name is failing with an error 71. (Note: the other policy with the
real names is working fine)

I called the SA, the cluster is up and running and both shared drives are
online and accessible.

I had the SA open the BAR gui from the host that has the shared drives and when
he goes to do a manual backup he can see the two shared drives. We can even
kickoff a manual backup of these two drives successfully, but it still fails
with an error 71.

The system account that runs the NBU client service has full control of the
shared drives.

Not really sure where/what I should look for.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance

Yes, but iff (if and only if) he uses the new_stream directive, which is
explicitly specifying a path to backup.

with either the "all_local_drives" or "/" directives, or even just
specifying the individual paths without the "new_stream_ directive, it
should work fine.

Hi All,

I've created a policy for multiple servers (all Solaris)
having some common mount points and some uncommon ones for e.g.,

- ServerA, ServerB, ServerC all have /oracle
- ServerA, ServerB have /erp
- ServerC has /app

I've defined a backup policy to backup the 3 mount
points from the 3 clients (with NEW_STREAM for each of the mount points
mentioned above). I'm getting error 71 for the servers which donot have
the directories existing on them.

- Is this what's supposed to happen? I was under the
impression that NBU6 will ignore the non-existent directories and
continue with the backup or was I wrong?
- How do I get rid of this error without having to
create multiple policies? Exclude list hasnt done anything for me here.

Would really appreciate the help here. Thanks.

Khurram

Re: [Veritas-bu] Error 71

2007-06-20 Thread Khurram Tariq

Here's what I found in the NBU6 Unix Admin Guide 1 (page 154):

"All the files listed do not need to exist on all the clients, as NetBackup
backs up the files that it finds. However, each client must have at least
one of the files in the backup selections list or the client backup will
fail with a status 71. The policy backup selections list does not apply to
user backups or archives since users select the objects to back up before
starting the operation."

I realized after reading this that due to me using NEW_STREAM for each
directory, NBU was creating separate jobs for each directory and this meant
that that job had to fail if the directory did not exist on one of the
clients. Once I removed NEW_STREAM all directories were part of one job (per
client) and it all worked fine from there. Thanks guys.

Khurram

Hi Steve,

We have so many clients that we see this one every once in a while.

The usual problem is that a filesystem that is in the File List for the
policy becomes unmounted, changes mount location, mount point becomes
stale, or the area to be backed up is deleted by the client.

My suggestion is to take the policy file list and go line-by-line
through them to assure that everything in them is actually on each
client in that policy. If any one does not exist, then you will get
that error.

Output from 'bperror -U -client -problems' may be
of help in finding the actual area that is not being found.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

--Chris

Starting with the basics: 71 is
none of the files in the file list exist. What is in your file list and
is there anything in that location on the client?
