[VFB] QUOTE FOR THE DAY

2008-11-01 Thread Jimmy D. Moore
The third reason for my liking the joys of rod and reel is it's
relative cheapness. - - - It has been my experience that fish usually
strike fastest and hardest in inverse ratio to the amount of money spent
on equipment.

Allan Fish

Uhh, Allan, what were the first two?

[VFB] re: vise ID

2008-11-01 Thread Paul Marriner

I must have missed Hans' post. Pragliola is an interesting character.
Teaches (taught?) casting with short rods and high line speed (a la
Wulff). Watched him repeatably cast a fly under a closed door with about
an inch clearance - something to see. His school is (was?) in central
Italy.

cheers
Paul

A couple of guys here in Sweden had pin-on-reels with the same logotype and
remembered the brand.

The winner is... HANS WEILENMANN... with 'ROBERTO PRAGLIOLA'!!!

Just a hunch can very well be enough.

[VFB] Re: Vise ID...

2008-11-01 Thread George
Nick, the one that I have, I bought at a fly swap many years ago. However,
you can make one yourself using a tongue blade and a spring type clothespin
glued to it. It can then be clamped to the front edge of your bench under
the c-clamp. I have made several and have encouraged those in my fly tying
classes to make one. It comes in handy for holding a hackle that is being
used for tails.

Nick, I have an AK Best Third Hand and the logo is AK'S Fly Tying Tools in
Green Letter with a fly attached to a fly line.

The vise doesn't look like any in his books or on his video.

A friend dug up this vise from the basement and is curious about the brand.
Anyone seen it before and knows what it is?

[VFB] Using reading glasses to read a computer screen...(OFF topic from fishing/tying)

2008-11-01 Thread boosbooksandbargains
Folks: a lot of you saw my recent posts about my having to wear a high powered
reading glasses, but then having to increase my font on emails and on my
windows screens because I just could not read it. Well, I went to Wal Mart
tonight and solved the problem..What you do is this, and they have a special
place on the eye chart to do this. I wear a 3.50 X power reading glass. And I
read books at a distance of anywhere from 8-10 inches away. But, at 18-22
inches away from the computer screen, it's VERY fuzzy.. So, I bought a pair of
1.75 power readers JUST for my computer (and maybe tying flies, just haven't
tried that yet)..I can put those on and see the screen and the keyboard
PERFECTLY. You have to check different powers to see what fits you, but the
chart said the rule of thumb would be a reader than is half as strong as your
book reader power.. Try it, you'll like it as the man in the commercial used to
say, Chuck
