Nev, interesting. Maybe it is an interesting variation to ty it with lead weight at the hooks eye and some bead chain eyes (Maybe from plastic) at the bend? You are talking about eyes, whereas back in the 70s when this fly was developed, I suspect that the weight of the bead chain was the main consideration and more important than it's appearance as eyes.
