[VFB] QUOTE FOR THE DAY

2009-02-19 Thread Jimmy D. Moore
My five piece fly rod is kind of like my American Express card. I never leave
home without it. Every stream, pond or puddle is inspected on my travels, and
I can thus while away spare (or stolen) moments discovering their potential.

[VFB] Re: 2009 Sowbug? DVD ideas

2009-02-19 Thread DonO

Rats! I wish I could go to the Round-up, but I'll have to settle for
chasing permit and bones in the Bahamas that weekend. I would love to give
Tony 1st-hand rope-dub lessons, but alas, not to be this year. I could send
Buggs, but he's pretty transparent and silent without me there. I'll be
there next year, Tony.

--Headed out this afternoon to continue progress on the DVD. There is so
much information, we are having a hard time getting it all on one DVD.
Sowhat do you think of these ideas?

We film the master tying technique, using the 3 angles (cameras), of a
particular material (complete- I think). During the tying sequence we
super-impose (edit) up in a corner a photo of the fly that is in the vise,
or similar, just for a few seconds. Then on a still-photo page following
each sequence we have a few or a bunch of photographs (tiled) of that
material roped to give different looks and then different finished flies.
One could pause on this page to see in detail how a material will look when
rope-dubbed a certain way. This way, the DVD is stand-alone. As we
progress, though, we see more and more that should be on the advanced DVD.

OR, we could flash a web-site url (on the Fantasy Fly site) for pages that
would show all of the photographs and finished patterns with written
descriptions of how that material can be roped, and materials recipes for
the finished flies (in addition to the tiled pages on the DVD). That way
viewing the video on a pc can be paired with a web tutorial for additional
info. to finish a fly. Since the DVD is technique-based, not pattern recipe
based, the added links to variations and finished flies would complete the
tutorials. I could always update the web pages, but I couldn't update the
DVD once it is published and printed. I could always put and update links
and sponsors on the web pages too.

Comments, opinions? What do you think would be more advantageous?

Can a DVD be interactive? That would open up some doors.

I could use these same techniques on the mouse video, and the rest of them.

DonO

[VFB] Re: 2009 Sowbug? DVD ideas

2009-02-19 Thread jim phillips

Don

Keep it SIMPLE!

The more elaborate you get, the more frustrated many of us dummy's will get.
Just a SIMPLE ROPE DUB DVD. Then in your ADVANCED; go with the elaborate ideas.
Give out your web Site for finished fly pictures or even a STS sample of the
rope dub process and a fly from start to finish.

Just my thoughts

Jim

May your GOD be your fishing partner.

[VFB] Hooks

2009-02-19 Thread iain short

Hi Guys
I just received a generous donation of hooks from Mark Romero, he said to post
his email,
if your interested contact him direct off list
iain

From: markflie...@hotmail.com

Hi Iain, glad they got there ok. The one your refering to as circle hooks are
Gamakatsu Octapus hooks.basically the same thing as a circle hook. You can
use them for all kinna things...for one thing, they make GREAT trailer
hooks, hangin' off the back of another hook or for tube flies. I just tye
outrageous big giant artistic soft hackles on em. Course in comparison to what
i would nomally refere to as Giant...they're almost micrscopic, lmao. I
do my real serious artistic flies on anything up to a size, (most likely 20/0
or bigger), i can't even measure. So those Octapus hooks aint really that big
in my eyes.

I don't even remember any streamer hooks with downward bendsif you can
jpeg me a pic.i can figure it out. Has to be jpeg.something that will
open itself.

I just like colored hooks..any color..AL colors. I do a lot of my
artyistic tying on colored hooks...just gives the flies an even MORE
artistic look. The ones you got are also Gamakatsu. We get them free from
Gamakatsu, along with TONS! of just bout everything they
make..trout, bass, saltwater, EVERYTHING. And they like us to share
themit's part of the deal. Same thing with Daiichiwe get those
free tooso we share them as well. I've given away bout 3,000 hooks in
the last 3/4 years. I give away at least a thousand a year. I have so many
hooks i can NEVER use them all.so why not share 'em. Have fun.
mark. P.S. btw, i'm off list again.but you might wanna make
mention of your inheritance on the vfb forummaybe somebody else might
need something i can help them with. You can post my email and tell 'em to
email me.

i'll go back On List for a week or so to see if anyone
responds.Lotta the vfb people have already got hooks from me in the
pastbut you never know
