[VFB] Re: Fly Identification

2009-09-03 Thread Alan Di Somma

Jack:

I should have been a little clearer.

I didn't mean that the flies were ugly, just the green was ugly.

Sorry for the confusion. I certainly didn't mean anything demeaning or
insulting.

Thank you,
Alan Di Somma

Would of been cool to have got to meet the cat..unfortunately, he died
in 1914. At least we did get to know several people who spent their lives
knowing several people who did know T.G. We were so fortunate to start, and
spend the first 20 years of our fly fishing lives, in the Catskills. And to be
members of the board of directors of the Theodore Gordon Flyfishers and on the
Conservation Committee for 15 years. And to be able to go on a lot of fun
fishing trips with the club and visit the Anglers Club in lower Manhattan a few
times at TGF Dinners, was terriffic. That place is amazing. We saw flies
actually tyed by T.G. there, amoung so many other things. But most of
all.it is to have fished all the same rivers he did, the Neversink..the
Beaverkill.the Willowemoc.the Esophus.the Callicoon.the East
and West Branches of the Delaware and the Delaware.sacred waters.
If you've never been there.GO! Go at least once before you
die...you must make your pilgrimage to the home of American dry fly
fishing. Wet flies were already being fished on the Battenkill in Vermont and
on the Broadhead in Pennsylvainia (on the legendary Henryville water), before
fly fishing came to the Catskills.but "Dry Fly" fishing.it ALL
started in the Catskillsso, if you wanna make it into
heavennuff said?
P.S. don't forget to visit the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum when your
thereour first home in the Catskills, was an apartment on top of
the gift shop there, for 17 and a half months..great times.great
memories. GO!

Subject: [VFB] Catskill Swap update
From: ladyflyt...@gmail.com
To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com

I have a total of 12 so instead of making a second group let's just go for a
nice dozen flies.

And let's try our luck in the path Mary Dette and all the famous Catskill Dry
Tyers laid for us with a swap, room for 10 and not due till December. And to
keep it a real stretch of our skills let's try for small dries, 16 and under,
all levels of tyers.1 Peggy B Condor
2 Neville Gosling
3 George Vincent
4 Michael Bliss
5 Robert Laubengayer
6 Hans Weilenmann
7 Dan Gober
8 Alan Di Somma
9 Mark Romero
10 Curtiss Watts
11 Martin Westbeek
12 Jim Hodson

This is the final list, Flies due December 31: Mail to Peggy Brenner,

266 N River Rd, Milford, NH 03055 and include a return envelope and postage.
Many thanks for taking part.

[VFB] Apologies

2009-09-03 Thread J Balmer

Sorry, I haven't been around much, been dealing w/ family health issues in
Chicago & working through VA paperwork. To Jim & those in the Streamer swap,
the White Smarmatrons are tied & the toe tags printed, I just didn't get
them in the envelope & mailed before I left. I'll send them 2 day delivery
when I get back so hopefully, Jim will have them by Tuesday. I'd overnight
them, but there's no delivery until Tuesday anyway.
Thanks,

J
