[VFB] Re: sub for seals fur
Patrick.you can get GREAT Seal from Jens Pilgaard. http://www.flytying.dk NOT a problem.trust me, lol. When goin' with subs, you have to think naturals or synthetics or blends. You've already got a lot of good advise and suggestions. I was a big SLF fan for a long time.( and i do not think in terms of synthetics as a sub for seal.if i wanna use Seal, i just use Seal.i've got LOTS).but the Arizona is much better than SLF. Real Seal is good for fishin' fliesit's naturalso if you looze a flyhowever it does not "pick out" anywhere near as nicely as synthetics. The synthetics are GREAT for show flies, as they will never see the water..at least i don't fish them. They cost way to much to tye, and i don't want to looze, and or leave synthetics in the river. When one of my show flies ends up in someone elses posession..then it's on him or her as to what it gets used for. Seal for the enviornmentArizona for show. But there are MANY other alternatives, both natural and synthetic. Get them all and see what you like. Wapsi has scads of really cool dubbings...some KILLER blends. Hareline is also a good companyand learn to blend your own. Mkae SURE you have a coffee grinder for that..little short burstDO NOT try and blend dubbing by hittin' the coffee grinder for long spurts of time..little short burst is all you need.2/3 seconds at most. > Date: Fri, 23 Oct 2009 19:58:45 +0200 > From: rene.zillm...@t-online.de > To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com > Subject: [VFB] Re: sub for seals fur > > > I allays thought that SLF from Partridge is a good sub for seal > Rene > > Alan Di Somma wrote: > > Go to the web site in my signature and look at their Simi-Seal and a new > > size Mega Simi-seal. > > > > > > Thank you, > > Alan Di Somma > > > > Why is it that at class reunions you feel younger than everyone else looks? > > > > http://www.azflyfishing.net/ > > > > > > > > > > > > - Original Message - > > From: > > To: "vfb-mail" > > Sent: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 11:57 AM > > Subject: [VFB] sub for seals fur > > > > > > > >> Ok I have lots of questions but give them all one at a time lol. > >> > >> I have been wanting to get into tying classics and well the seal fur has > >> me stumped, what can i use and what makes it long like that and how do you > >> get it to string out like they way they do on classics lol > >> > >> thank you and like i said i have lots of questions lol so one at a time > >> and maybe one a day lol thank you all > >> > >> Patrick Harnish > >> > >> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > No virus found in this incoming message. > > Checked by AVG - www.avg.com > > Version: 8.5.422 / Virus Database: 270.14.23/2448 - Release Date: 10/20/09 > > 10:43:00 > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > _ Windows 7: Simplify your PC. [VFB] Re: Flies & material of the week
Nev, The camera flash reflected and intensified the brightness, but that closely mimics the material in the bright sunlight. That brightness is diminished be submerging in water, with that amount based on water clarity and sunshine. That being said, a one of the roped caddis patterns has a pearl underbody and the rope segments have spaces so the pearl shines between the segments, good for murky water. I haven't started the blended dubbings yet, adding flash and ice-dub to the wool. That's another whole new ball-game. These are just to show the flexibility of the wool itself. Ferinstance, I'll add some chart. crystal flash and chart. rubber legs to the leech and get a great bugger.
