Tony, found one...

A VERY GOOD AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD SOLID
SHOT SIX (6) POUND CANNON BALL, ca. 1770s: In overall very good untouched
condition. Solid shot, 3 1/2 diameter, approx. six
(6) pound ball. In very good untouched condition with the
expected heavy pitting and an untouched chocolate brown age patina overall.
Some
scattered roughness and an impact dent. A nice, authentic, medium-sized,
Revolutionary War Period Cannon Ball, ca. 1770s.
Price: $325.00

Now if I drilled out a tapered hole, had it
nickle/brass plated, the bead weight would be cut down to around 3.5 to 4
pounds, hopefully.

With the hook weighing in itself at 3 pounds, I
probably won't need to add any lead wrap to the shank.

This could work...a little pricy, though.  I
wonder who's head made the impact dent...

Let's s  the 'Cannonball
Caddis'?

[VFB] QUOTE FOR THE DAY

2009-11-02 Thread Jimmy D. Moore
Thanks for your input on the daily quotes. All but a handfull of you like
a mixture of humor and fishing/tying tips, so that's what it'll be. Below
is one of my quotes that I wrote several years ago. Hope you like it.
It has a little humor, but there's a subtle lesson on fishing for browns.

Fishing for browns requires stealth, patience, a lot of hiding behind bushes
and limited wading. About the only time you'll see me hiding behind a bush
is when I encounter a bear. I'd rather be on the water heading upstream.
Doesn't seem to bother the rainbows and it's probably the reason I don't
catch a lot of browns.

Funny you ask about the EP feathers!!
I was speaking to the club president today (he also lectures with me at
university) about you, the bi- and tri- polar fly, and the EP story. I
have to do a run to the taxidermist to see if he has anything of
interest. Haven't been for many months.
I am hoping that over the summer I can put together a bunch of Aussie
materials for you to do something similar Ie wallaby/kangaroo, wombat,
emu, cockatoo, Kukaburra, Koala (??), possum, Cockatoo, etc. It might
not get you to the South Pole, but you are still getting closer ;)

Wishing you all the best,

Simple - you only tie one fly and send me the digital photo of it.

I will put it on both my photobucket and flickr photo sites in a dedicated
christmas fly swap album.
I will post the web addresses so everyone can see the flies.

no money, no posting flies, just tie one and email the photo with instructions
to me

Christmas Fly Swap

Simple - you only tie one fly and send me the digital photo of it.

I will put it on both my photobucket and flickr photo sites in a dedicated
christmas fly swap album.
I will post the web addresses so everyone can see the flies.

no money, no posting flies, just tie one and email the photo with instructions
to me

Any fly as long as you can photograph it but must contain dear hair

Folks: I am looking for a book on production fly tying at a reasonable
price.(Or trade, as I have some pretty good , rare trout books) Author don't
actually matter I guess, although I'm partial to AK Best (I think he has a
production tying book out) I don't actually want to do production fly tying,
but always wanted to know how it's done. Contact me OFFlist. Thanks, Chuck

2009-11-02 Thread chuckalexander
Folks: I got REAL lucky. I picked up AK Best's Production fly tying book for
only $9.19 on Amazon. And the buyer has a 99% rating and the book is rated as
good condition, and it only has to come from MD, not somewhere like
Washington, such as usually my luck LOL.. I think I'll really like the book..

[VFB] Books Fer Sale........

2009-11-02 Thread chuckalexander
BTW, I have more than these two. But the books I was referring to that I have
(unless the guy I asked first about them wants them) are both hardback, both
FIRST editions and both in real good shape. They are HUGE LOL. They are:

Nymphs: A complete guide to naturals and imitations, by Ernest Schwiebert
copyright 1973 first edition

Hatches: A complete guide to fishing the hatches of north American trout
streams by Al Caucci and Bob Nastasi

I want $25.00 each or $40.00 for both, plus either $4.00 Shipping for one, or
$6.50 shipping for both. On Amazon (in the collector category that they are,
being first editions) the range in price for the Nymph book is $70-$90 and up
to over $131.00 in the NON collectible part. The Hatches book I'm not even
showing ANY first editions, and the 2004 reprint sells from $9.44-$95.00. If I
listed it on there as a first edition, I'd put a LOT more than $9.44 on it
LOL..And would eventually get it. I have a few more trout books I'll list asap
as all I do is bluegill and bass fish, those are the type books I'm hunting, so
if anybody has any of those they'd trade. Let's talk. OFFlist...

Thanks, Chuck
