[VFB] Jimmy D update

2013-11-14 Thread Jimmy D. Moore

Hi Gang:

Still progressing nicely. Taking a litle while to get tht Comadin
regulated,

but I understand that's the way it goes. Blood too thin, blood too thick.
Hopefully they get it right this time.

There's no swelling or pain. Been no pain from the outset, so I'm lucky
there. Some have really bad pain with the clot. The only thing that
bothers me is that I have to take the Comadin for 6 months. So be it!
During all this I plan to re-hab the muscles in my legs. Was working on
on that when Clot hit.

The orthopedic boot is 'out the window' Both my docs said that the
way I had it tightened was what caused the clot in the first place.
Told me in no uncertain terms was I to wear the boot until
the clot business is over and done with. Anyone want to buy a $1000
boot? :-P Yep, thats what they cost. Medicare paid for it,. whew!

Hopefully, come spring, I can wade again.

I forgot to mention that one river that I used to fish for steelhead
was affected by a deadly train derailment in 2005 when a total of nine
cars derailed, including a car carrying sodium hydroxide solution.
The resulting spill of the Sodium Hydroxide (common names: caustic
soda or lye) - 40,000 litres of 73% solution occurred in a sensitive
river environment home to many species of fish and wildlife. The
impacts of the spill on the fish species were devastating, as
virtually all free swimming fish occupying the Cheakamus River at the
time of the spill were killed. More than 500,000 adult and young
salmon, steelhead, trout, lamprey and other species died of
suffocation from skin burns and gill haemorrhaging. Birds and animals
that rely on the Cheakamus salmon for food were also affected by the
spill. The Cheakamus River is a tributary of the steelhead bearing
Squamish river and that too was also affected.

I have not fished the Cheakamus river since the spill.

2013-11-14 Thread Chuck Alexander
Jimmy: I hear ya on that. My wife had her blood clots discovered in May, and
the docs put her on 2mg of Coumadin, twice a day, trying that PT-INR
(whatever that stands for) to a certain number as it was VERY low. Then ,
they changed her to 3mg, twice a day, then 5mg twice a day. Well, that got
it too high cause the stuff don't work instantly as you know. So, they
wanted that number to be between 1 and 2, but it shot up to 4 or 5. So, the
slow taper DOWN began. But, they WILL get it regulated, you'll just have to
be patient with them. Also, I have always cooked meals with my wife, or
cooked myself when she's working, but she is not even supposed to cut up
onions, bell peppers, meat or ANYTHING, cause if she gets cut, it takes
forever to stop the bleeding, but that is MUCH , MUCH better than what the
alternative could have been. Also, now, if she were to thump herself, the
next day, there is a HUGE bruze. Again, MUCH better than the alternative of
still having blood clots. But anyway, I will keep you (and Jody) in my
thoughts and prayers, as it is a team effort to get this stuff regulated.

I started our with 2 Mg each day then it went up to 4 mg twice a day and now it
is settled to 5 mg twice a day. I have been taking it for over a year. Was told
I would be on it for a long time. Since I have been on it I have not had
another TIA. I still have blood work each month to monitor it.
I still can't wade and will not be able to any more. My knees are gone and I am
too old to get them done over. Three times on the right knee is more than I
want to do again.
