Hi

I am trying to make some fly fishing lines
that are 20 feet length and I have not been able to find any non-tapered fly
fishing lines that I can cut into 20 feet
lengths, the fly stores I have been in have told me this type of line does not
exist, but would think it does. I think
this is something like what they would use on the Japanese Tenkara poles.

Any suggestions on where I might be able to
find some?

Thank you

Larry:

A 230 grain .45 ACP bullet comes out the barrel at around 900 FPS, about the
same as a 250 grain .45 Colt.  It's a good man stopper but it would just piss
off a big bear.  Don's got the right idea
with the .500 S W.  Not something you'd want for concealed carry but good in
bear country.

things considered, I'd rather be in Philadelphia.

Larry Johnson

I've posted photos before of my fly-
fishing protection in Grizzly country, such as Glacier Park in NW Montana.  I
love bears- just don't want to be mauled
or eaten alive.  Hope I never have to use it.
So this starts out as fly-fishing related.
Please respond off
list           ffc @ tribcsp .com
The list is a little slow, so I though I'd post why I opted for the SW .500
mag.
over the .44 mag.
A few weeks ago we were camping and my friend had his 44mag.  So we
target-practiced against a clay
bank at 80 yards or so.  After we shot for a little, he went over and dug out a
few slugs for comparisons.
His 44 shot
230 grain bullets (left) and mine 550 grain bullets.
Mine is 10% larger in diameter (.5 vs .44), but doesn't look like
it because of the radiused shoulder.
Flip-em over:
So at almost 2 1/2 times the weight, it mushrooms out to double
the diameter.
This will stop even the biggest bear in its tracks, even at full charge
point-blank range.
We're
looking at over 2600# M.E. from a hand-gun carried in a vest holster!
NOW...
I thought I'd show you what a real heavy-
brush dangerous game cartridge looks like.
This gun is my cousin's, who hunts African Cape Buffalo, the toughest
animal on earth to put down.
On the left is a .44 and a .500 (700 grain).  On the right is his 4-Bore, or,
1000 Nitro
Express!
That's NOT black powder, like the old Maharajah's version in India. Over 12K in
muzzle energy!
2200 grain
bullet at 1600 ft./sec.!
Heavy gun, has his gun-bearer carry it in a custom sling until the stalk:
Once they spot the
old beast, it's time to feed the villagers:
Some people oppose hunting, but they don't understand Africa.  He paid
$40,000
for the hunt, which 75% went to the village fund, and the meat direct to the
villagers.
In areas without
tourism, where he hunts, these animals would all be killed by poachers.
The villagers all become game wardens,
protecting the resource that feeds them,
rather than a poacher killing it and making a few hundred dollars for
himself.
Please, comments off list.

Well,
sounds fine. Here we have lots of melting snow and rain, rain, rain.
Rhine level is rising, over 6m now, over 7 expected.
I managed some days ago to fish, while it was down to 3. Now it's not
possible to wade. Today we will have some limitations to the shipping,
only slow and in the middle of the river allowed to avoid damages of
banks and buildings, which are already flooded.
Today they start to flood a tube (subway) construction area. They fear
that the pressure from the rising water might collapse the walls in the
area. In this case some more buildings will collapse. And the cathedral
is close... But this will not happen, for sure.

David,

About all major on-line shops sell the 33903 hooks. I checked three
and they all have them:

Hook Hackle: http://www.hookhack.com
J. Stockard:http://www.jsflyfishing.com
FeatherCraft: http://www.feather-craft.com

Good morning everybody ,I'm looking for some mustard kink shaft
33903 or ck52s I guess they don't make the 33903 any more so the ck

I can get them please let me know .
Thanks dave

For those interested in the rope-dub dvd...

I got the initial proof/draft DVD for the video tying sequences from the
video-man. I stuck it in the TV and Cheryl
sat down to watch it with me. She was amazed. She's seen me demo-ing the
rope-dub for the last 8 years, but she said
the DVD was even better than seeing me tie in person (that's hard to believe,
since I'm so good-lookin'). She was also
amazed at how many tying techniques were included, telling me that I could make
3 DVDs with that much information. I
told her I was already working on DVD #2 and it had a lot more advanced
applications.

From my standpoint it looked pretty good, but needs a lot more editing and
photo inserts. How many tying sequences
are there? 24 that I counted, not including the talking and fly demo sections,
and it doesn't include the fishing
sequence up front or the credits and ad pages at the back. The rope-dub is so
quick, and I'm only tying the tail ends
(not the finished pattern), that the tying sequences don't take very long at
all.

There's a lot for someone to work on, but the tying sequences coupled with
various photos should allow pausing and
rewinding so that tough parts can be reviewed. Only problem I could see was
that my big 'ol ball-park frankfingers
were getting in the way all the time. We used 2 camera angles, so hopefully we
can get good views of all ties.

I cancelled my trip to Idaho this week-end because of the storm moving in-
supposed to be 2 to 4 feet of snow up in
the western mountains (Jackon/Wilson areas) so the passes may get closed (our
route). I'll have to wait for a later
date to meet up with Jack Dennis to review it with him.

From my first view, I am very satisfied and I'm looking forward to getting a
couple more initial reviews from
seasoned tiers.

If you have any questions, please fire away.

And Byard- you get yours for free, of course (signature edition). I'll chat
with you off-list.
