Re: [VFB] Grandson Fly Fishing
Gary: That’s a great story. I know from experience that fishing with the grandkids is about the best feeling in the world. Even better when they catch fish and getting to see their faces when they haul em in. Ryan's face was pretty purple by the time we reached the pond. His daddy had rigged his rod with a small round red and white bobber and a lime green twister tail. Before leaving home, I had tied some McGill's Bluegill Magic flies. I tied one to the twister tail hook with about 20 inches of tippet. Not exactly fly fishing, but he was fishing with a fly. His dad helped him cast out about 10 feet. Within two seconds his bobber went down and with dad's help Ryan reeled in his first fish. It was a Smallmouth bass about eight inches long. Two more casts netted two Bluegills. Sad to say we had left some essential equipment at home. No cameras, not even a cell phone. But on the positive side, this will allow his first fish to grow in size over the years. After all he does have the genes.
