Pete,

You'll probably get a ton of responses.  For size 8, I prefer the
R74-9672 (4X long).  An alternative is to get the R73-9672 (3x long) in
size 6.  It will give you the same shank  length with a wider gape.  Any
good streamer hook works.

I tend to use more Mustad than anything.  ($$ as compared to $$$)

That's just my opinion - I expect there's a ton of folks who will tell
me by I'm all wet.

Actually, come to think of it, I _am_ all wet.  I've been mowing and
trimming this afternoon.  I'm currently inside rehydrating so I can go
out and sweat some more.    Average temp here this time of year is in
the low 70's.  right now it's 90°.

Howdy gang -
For being someone who prefers Mustad hooks, you would think that I'd
know this, but I sheepishly must admit that I simply don't fish
buggers, and so ask - I just won a free 100-pack of Mustad hooks in a
raffle from our local club (to obtain from our local shop) (along with
some other tying goodies).  What is the right hook model / appropriate
hook model to use for a wooly bugger?  Yes, yes - I know, I'm in the
wooly bugger swap... I've tied them before, albeit maybe not on the
best choice of hook model, but I want to challenge myself to actually
tie more of them and gosh darn it, actually fish one already after my
24+ years of fly fishing!  I'm thinking the R73-9671 is what I'm
after, but wanted to ask for people's opinion on hook model.  Likely
tying in size 8, assuming the shank is the appropriate "wooly bugger
streamer-length" long.

Thanks, everyone,
-Pete.

Pete:

I would go for a 2X or 1x long streamer hook with 2x being my preference but a
lot depends upon what you would be fishing for. This would be my preference for
trout. In recent years, I have done better with smaller hooks. If fishing for
bass I would go larger, but there’s not many bass here.
