Re: [VFB] No rod casting- hauling, double-hauling
I've watched Lefty cast with the tip only, too. Threw it out the back end of the casting pond at the show. The secret is to create any kind of arc, and then line management for power. Got to be able to time the double-haul with a short casting arc, then it will work. If you think about it, the old classic '10:00/2:00-then-drift' is a pretty short arc considering the 9' rod being used. Having the popsickle stick with a single guide allows for a lot of energy to be transferred using hauling without dragging the line over the skin. I've been showed up silly by salt-water guides who double-haul long distance casts twice as long as my best one. Practice and timing. Tom Springer was one of those.
