[VFB] Re: FW: for the list- off topic- count your blessings
We went pretty far into the jungle, the kids that were living in the jungle along the rivers were better off than the ones we saw in Lima. Our guide was former special forces in the Peruvian army. He had a group that was captured by Shinning Path a year before we were there negotiated their release. He said the same thing about Lima. As to the US, there are WAY too many places where kids are dying of disease, malnutrition stupid adults. Appalachia is a good example, but there are still areas in major cities that don't have the excuse of being remote w/ no services. Not much of that around trout streams though. Maybe if we had more trout streams? [VFB] Re: FW: for the list- off topic- count your blessings
That's rural poor, and it's in all of the lower 48, and we observed many last year in Alaska. These are folks who may own a small piece of land with a old trailer or home on it. We worked with Habitat for Humanity for a decade in Lowell, MA and one of the most difficult things to do is convince church going folks who live in town or a smaller city that the guy way out with no plumbing or whatever else they don't have deserves a decent place to live same as the inner city family. But sometimes that rural guy owns and works his little piece of land so to the city guy he is rich. Peggy On Fri, Jul 10, 2009 at 1:06 PM, DonO f...@tribcsp.com wrote: Peru?? Well, let me put a different spin - I have seen too many people who cast further than they need to or should. Most casts don't need to be 35'+ rather inside of 20' - that is my opinion. On a lake maybe more but the currents on a river at long lengths make controlling drag almost impossible. Don't mention gas prices as that's a 2-edged sword for me. I work in the natural gas ind. and when prices are high business is great and gas is cheap - relatively speaking (for me, anyway). When prices are low- business is slow. I thought my '94 454 Suburban would become my fishing vehicle, but I liked my 04 stretch-cab 8.1 liter Sierra for pulling the toy-hauler much better. Then I bought an 05 crew-cab Duramax for the mileage, but that became almost a wash with the high diesel prices. So now I have 3 trucks and still have to decide which one to take fishin'. But I don't break any rods cause the toy-hauler is plenty long enough and doesn't have a ceiling fan. When ATV'n from spot to spot, I break the rod down into 2 halves and put it in the gun-rack. Just join the two halves again at the new spot, feed out the leader and fly, and I'm ready again. FOR MARK May your GOD be your fishing partner. From: markflie...@hotmail.com To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com; desert-tr...@hotmail.com Subject: RE: [VFB] Re: FW: for the list. Date: Mon, 29 Jun 2009 12:04:10 -0600 for the list DonO, email has been sent..reply asap if at all possible. TKX. As for the HUGE hooks i have.they are all in the tyin' room in Arkansasi don't have those with me. We will be back there appr. the 16th/17th of July..and be there bout a week before heading for Colorado. i can bring some of them with me to Colorado if you like so you can see them. Or, when we get home, i can have Misako take a pic of a sampling of them and send it to you by email. Whichever.the pic deal would be better because then i don't have to haul them all over the country-side for nothing.i mean in terms of i won't need them to tye on at the show in Colorado, so why bring them if i'm not gonna use them. i have tyed on them at a show, (Sowbug), but i ended up doin' one fly per day.in fact at this years Sowbug i did three flies total.one a day on those hooks. All three came out great, but it takes all damn day to finish a fly, specially while talking to the public while tyin'. So i hadn't planned on bringing those hooks with me to Colorado. I'd rather tye on those at home.then i can take 2/3 days to finish one, because i have access to all my materials and can take my time making decisions all along the way as to what i wanna use, etc. Ya dig? i have never measured any of these particular hooks we're referring to..gap/gape OR shank length.all i can tell you is they ARE BIGHUGE actually. Every single one is different...so far there have been no two exactly alike. Some of been close to another, by not so close that you wouldn't automaticaly notice differences. Each is unique.and THAT'S the whole point. Gap size.shank length.bend style, etc. Each is a one of a kind in a manor of speaking. One, of the MAIN reasons i love 'em so much. But just in terms of a guestimate bout gap size...i HAVE to say the largest ones are easily a 20/0. And the longest ones are 8/9 inches in shank length, maybe longer.probably longer. i'm basically doin' designs, that are to a large degree, two flies on one hook in some cases, depending on the design. If i can't find feathers i like well enough to do single feather wings, on say any particular hook, then i go to a double fly type a deal...because it's very hard to find feathers with fibers long enough to do a wing, (Married or Mixed) on hooks this big. They virtually don't exist. But that's fine.not a problem. Or if it is a problem.what is fly tying, BUT, solving problems? So you find a way to solve it. Thank you very much. Use Polar Bear hair or any of a number of other materials. Also, the really long shanks afford me the opprotunity to use more than one bead in a fly sometimes. Rice AND Beens, Rock AND Roll, Country AND Western, Hot AND Tamale.lmao. Btw, the hooks have no barbs.they are somewhat crude in nature..kinna like me, lmao. But i love 'em. They've got a RAW, rough, metalic, hard-core nature, look to 'em. Sophisticated in their own wayprimitive to a degreebut sometimes Primitive is cool. You dig? You'll understand instantly when you see 'em. The one comment i got constantly at the Sowbug about 'em was...whataya catch with those.sharks? Picture that in your mind. The DVDs can be coded when copied off the master so that they can't be reproduced. Most of the DVD (CD) reproduction software has that feature there shouldn't be any additional cost for that.
