Would it stay put, or would I have to glue

Try the high density foam bed role sold by camping stores for
  backpackers.
Its about 3/8 inch thick, tough, washable, CHEAP and
  cuts with a sharp knife.
its about 6 foot by 18 inch

I am considering putting some outdoor carpeting
in the bottom for sound attenuation, but I want to make sure there are no
pitfalls. I think it would need to be stable, yet removable for
clean-up. Velcro? Maybe I should glue some water-proof boat carpet
  down.

I see a little late (normal for me) that you already have the outriggers,
but
maybe some other VFB member will find the info useful.

[VFB] Re: Test - any buddy out there?- canoe adders

2009-02-12 Thread DonO
MeddelandeJerry, thanks. My outriggers are very similar to those. They
telescope in/out & raise/lower easily. My canoe is fairly stable already, as
it's a flat-bottom sport-canoe, so the addition of the outriggers should make
it very stable for casting. Never got to try it out last year- spent the
entire summer working in Moab.

What is the conversion between lbs. of thrust for an electric motor and
horsepower for an engine drive? I just started looking around for the driver
and I'm deciding which way to go. My canoe is rated for 5hp. But up here a
mile high, a 5hp derates to just a little less than 4hp. If I get a 6hp that
derates to 5hp, I have the right hp but an engine that is larger than my boat
plate. I don't think I can get an electric drive that will keep up with even a
4hp engine, but an ED would sure be quiet for sightseeing or trolling. The
transom won't take both, but I did consider a side-mount for the ED. Different
bodies of water call for different considerations when selecting a drive- speed
vs quiet. I may have to have both, and choose one for the outing.

We don't pole canoes up here, but I was wondering if I were to bring it down to
Florida, what would the saltwater do to an aluminum canoe for a short duration
of saltwater exposure? I am considering putting some outdoor carpeting in the
bottom for sound attenuation, but I want to make sure there are no pitfalls. I
think it would need to be stable, yet removable for clean-up. Velcro? Maybe I
should glue some water-proof boat carpet down.

Comments anyone?

  Don,

I’ll send you a few shots of my set up. 16’ square stern

American Eagle composite. I run 3 hp on the back or a trolling

motor.I usually am standing and poling. Very Stable.

Got these because you can leave them down when you use the outboard.

Here are the stabilizers I use

So OK, what do we need to liven up the ol' list one more time?

I'm not as busy right now as I have been- that's for sure.

Got home from Moab and had a million things to catch up on, then left for 3
weeks. Now I'm back for awhile ('til mid-March anyway).

  Swaps are always good.

  1. If someone wants to host a materials swap, it's time for spring cleaning
for me again. I bought a whole male peacock hide at the Denver Furimski show-
tail, wings, body, crest, everything. It's the blue-neck variety, so I have
lots if irredescent blue neck fan feathers (good for rope-dubbing), the
tan/green fans, & lots of eyes. The tail had turned 50% brassy-colored, so I
won't have to sun them to get them to change. (Brassed-out peacock is great
for nymphs). I'd be willing to send in some neat feathers if a swapmeister
wants to divvy them up with the participants. I'd also put in some
cherry-picks for the swapmeister's efforts.

  2. Got the video-taping done on Monday for my 1st DVD- "Rope-Dubbing with
DonO". Had a professional TV cameraman (a friend) come in to do the taping
with professional equipment (for a 'friendly $fee'- LOL). He'll also do the
editing, so I'm looking forwards to seeing what we did so far. We taped for
about 6 hours to get it all done, and I macro-photographed flies for about 4
hours yesterday for the inserts. It will be about one hour in HD format, so
I'll have as many materials demonstrated as the space will allow, and lots of
overlaid photos to help. Although a lot of patterns are shown, it's really a
technique video, the basics and sub-techniques of the rope-dub applied to many
materials. I've decided to put the price at $29.95 to VFBers and $39.95 for
the public (I was told by some that it should be $99.95 for as much stuff as it
has), but I don't want to have them pirated because the price is high. The
cameraman knows how to copy-protect the DVD (latest stuff, anyway), so copying
should be minimal. The two Denver shows finally motivated me to 'git 'r d
