Re: [VFB] Thread Colors

2016-05-07 Thread Pete Gramp
I've been asked to give a serious list, so I'll say that I use Uni and
Veevus (uni because it works with the diameter of the inner hole, to work
with my first generation ekich bobbin, veevus because of preference of the
thread). Colors are burgundy (visited "Slide in" fly shop and he got me
started on that trend), black, white (admittedly for use with markers, but
it is a color so there it is), pale yellow / lt cahill (goes by different
names based on which company makes it), camel (tannish-brown), and olive.
There you have it!
Tight wraps,
-Pete

Re: [VFB] Thread Colors

2016-04-25 Thread Jack Harford
I started this year thinking what it would be like to tie for a year with
only three of each type of fly tying material - - - - like 3 chenille, 3
marabou, three colors thread, 3 beads, etc.

Then, I got the impulse to tie hairwing salmon flies and completely put
those nasty thoughts in the trashcan. :D

You cheated, Pete - no Sharpies available ;-) "Sharpie" is a rather
generic term for markers, kinda like "Fridgidaire" used to be for
refrigerators (you're too young to remember that)and a Hoover across
the pond is a vacuum cleaner.

I don't need six - Black, Brown, Flourescent red, Pink and mono.

HOWEVER, if I can use a marker of any brand, I'd add white to the above,
bringing my total to six

Actually, I tie 90% of my flies with black. However, seeing how well
Jack Harford does at catching fish, I may start using red.

I tie about 90% of my flies with red or black. Red adds a little hot spot
of gill look. If I had 4 more to choose I'd go with chartreuse, white, tan,
and olive.

tight lines!!
