Re: [videoblogging] New contender on the Live broadcasting field

2007-06-27 Thread randulo
Hi Ron,

I'm just guessing here that at least during beta they won't respond
quickly, although I did get an answer when the server was down for
awhile and I asked about that. I'm guessing the preferred format is
FLV, but they do MOV and I think even WMV. No MV4 though.

Re: [videoblogging] New contender on the Live broadcasting field

2007-06-27 Thread Ron Watson
I think this is a pretty cool idea here.

I'm looking for additional support though.

The basic blocks for usage are up and running, but there are a few
details left out.

Like what formats play well with Mogulus? My QT movies are
languishing in this sometimes grey-ed out sometimes yellow marked
shells of the video files they should be. What's up with that?

Most of my stuff is in MOV format, and I was wondering what the deal
was. I'm a few hours out since sending them a note.

I bet they can't touch Mike @ Blip for support though. Thanks Mike!

Hey Mike, can you check with them and get Blip hooked up to their
search?

Anyway, I think this is a cool project and could really use the tools
Mogulus has to offer.

I hope they are a 'good' company. Haven't even checked. That gets so
depressing...

right now it's just a matter of saving the $$$ and also waiting for the new

I made the switch about a month ago myself. I also upgraded to
Quicktime Pro. I have noticed that saving my files on iMovie gives me
a much higher resolution, but also a huge file size. With Quicktime
Pro I can compress the file size down without losing too much of the
resolution. I still post my original files to blip.tv because they
have the capability to handle my large files, but other sites that
require 100 MB or less require that you compress your file.

In short the quality and the effects with iMovie are much better then
with movie maker, but be prepared to deal with large files and getting
creative with saving your files so that they can be uploaded everywhere.

I'm looking for a large bathroom to film in. The filming will take not very
long at all (10 minutes at most...). Needs to be enough room to pull back
on someone sitting on the throne with laptop on lap. An office bathroom
would be OK, but the less it looks like an office, the better (i.e. prefer
no wall-bars or seat-cover dispensers...) Needed ASAP (like, for tomorrow
sometime)

Any assistance off-list would be appreciated. Public transport accessible
preferred.

"The latter group wants the option of charging customers more for

video, faster or more reliably than other data."

... this is NOT what net-neutrality is - and this is a big misconception in
how it is often presented - as specified in, for example, the Markey
ammendment in the house ... net neutrality is NOT that you can't treat data
differently based on data TYPE, rather you can non treat data differently
based on the data SOURCE ... so, it's perfectly reasonable, based on these
proposed net neutrality laws, to treat video and text differently within the
network, for example; but it is not reasonable to treat video from the
Richard Show differently from AT&T's TV channel ... the problem with the
latter in terms of the negative impact on start ups, creativity,
competition, and innovation in general is pretty self-evident to me

... as for how it would benefit consumers for AT&T, Sprint, or whoever, to
determine whose content will be easy to access vs. whose will not ... and
their decisions are all based on income to the company ... how's that going
to help the consumer?

... definitely will NOT help anyone interested in independent/grass roots
media

[videoblogging] The FTC sucks...

2007-06-27 Thread Heath
Like anyone here on this group didn't know this but look at the last
line from this article

WASHINGTON - The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday urged
policymakers to proceed cautiously on any regulation of high-speed
Internet traffic.

The agency issued a report addressing the controversial subject of
network neutrality, which is the notion that all online traffic
should be treated equally by Internet service providers.

The issue pits consumer groups and content providers such as Google
Inc. against large telecommunications companies, such as AT&T Inc.
and Comcast Corp. The latter group wants the option of charging
customers more for transmitting certain content, including live
video, faster or more reliably than other data.

FTC Chairwoman Deborah Platt Majoras said that without evidence
of "market failure or demonstrated consumer harm, policy makers
should be particularly hesitant to enact new regulation in this
area." The Federal Communications Commission and Department of
Justice have jurisdiction over high-speed Internet access, while
Congress has considered legislation that would mandate network
neutrality.

The agency also said that certain practices that would discriminate
among Internet traffic, such as prioritizing some data or providing
exclusive deals to content providers, "can benefit consumers."

[videoblogging] Re: need a videocamera recommendation: good in low light, price <$300

2007-06-27 Thread Tony
I'm quite impressed by the performance of the Sanyo Xacti c40. It's an
SD camera wrt video, but it's low light performance is very good. You
can get them at Radio Shack of all places, and with a 2GB SD card (2
hours of video!) you'll pay $224 before tax. Not bad.

[videoblogging] Re: just curious about facebook groups

2007-06-27 Thread missbhavens1969
There's even another one, I'm pretty sure. I think I've seen a total
of five.

At first I wondered why there were so many groups (with the same
members, too!) and left comments about this on each of them. No one
really seemed to care, which is fine; I'm not particularly active on
Facebook, and none of the groups there seem to be doing much of
anything besides having members (I haven't checked back with them in
several weeks, so this may no longer be the case). Might as well just
join them all (or none) and see what fits.

When you think about it, NOTHING is really "official" on Facebook!

randulo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
  Hi John,

Thanks for posting that, it's very interesting. I know a little about
a few of those sites.

I've been using Brightcove since the end of 2006. Their network is
excellent and they provide all kinds of players including this one:
http://wine-stories.com - some of their players can have linked
banners and they have single title as well as tabbed multiple pages
ones.

I asked to be in their ad program and they only actually rolled it out
a few months ago. I still have received nothing, although revenue is
not why I am producing video.

Brightcove is not intuitive IMO, and is very labor intensive, but it
can be mastered. You have to upload via the Flash on the web studio or
a Windoze app they furnish. Then you have "assets" which consist of
files you uploaded: video (flv or wmv) thumbnails and small icons one
of each of these three types for each "title" you will create. One or
more titles will go into a "lineup" and the lineup can be in one or
more players. It's powerful but a real PITA to put up each video,
though. They also provide extensive download reports.

OTH, Brightcove has a way to sell content to AOL members. THe content
is pay to download WMV files. This would be more for how-to, content
rich editorial or such rather than fiction, although if you could
incite people to download fiction, that'd be great. I think it's
somehow easier to convince someone interested in wine to download a
series of videos on "how to taste like a pro" for example than to get
someone to download fiction titles *unless* they were called "Roof
Sex" :)

So, bottom line, as someone else said, Brightcove is good quality and
has some high powered members like the Wine Spectator magazine. They
require 480x360 videos and recommend 520bps. Flash and WMV. They also
have a syndication program that almlows people to use your vids on
their site. There are a lot of video-hungry sites out there on all
themes.

I was about to post the link to their user manual, but they're in
maintenance at the moment.
I recommend that those of you who produce a lot of content join
Brightcove and take it for a drive. I think Brightcove is a more
professional distribution system than most of the others I've seen. To
get back to the original subject though, I haven't seen a penny from
them, yet.

Thanks Harold, that's a great reference, although I now hold you
responsible for vastly increased unproductive work time as I am
spending lots of time checking out his vlog - it's brilliantly eclectic!

[videoblogging] Re: videos embedded into emails?

2007-06-27 Thread oovooworld
Hi David,

It's not the same as embedding a full-length pre-recorded sample of
your work, but ooVoo (free application) lets you send one-minute video
messages via email. Maybe you could use it to send a 'taster' example
message and then embed a link to your site/a holding page with the
work itself? Just an idea.

Other than that I have tried this before and not had much luck I'm
afraid so would be interested if anyone else has too.

Re: [videoblogging] list of video-sites that pay vloggers-videobloggers

2007-06-27 Thread randulo

They

Re: [videoblogging] zango, nother aggregator...

2007-06-27 Thread Mike Meiser
Man, These guys give aggregators a bad name. :(

I've not played around with their site, but if I'm understanding
correctly they're using videos on the web, the hot thing of the
moment, to get people to install their adware. I'm I right?

Yeee... That's all I can say.
