Gimme some time, Deirdre - on a project that will soon leave no energy left
for much else besides laundry and sleep. What's your schedule for
deployment?

Is there a news story associated with this? I am completely disgusted. I need
to know if this officer is going to be punished for his obvious disregard of
human decency!

Not too many details yet:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ny-nycop0729,0,6050062.story

As expected, the biker is the one charged with assault.
if not for the video, it would be a citizen's word against the NYPD.
Guess who usually wins.
Interesting to see how this case plays out.

The saddest irony is that the citizens of Manhattan will pay for the
inevitable lawsuit that should come from this police brutality.

[videoblogging] NEEDED - Video Capture Program....

2008-07-31 Thread Pat Cook
Hi everyone:

I'm looking for a program (Namely a freebie) that will capture video
from a video source (Be it a webcam, camcorder, etc), allow you to inser
text AND (Ideally) image overlay.

This software should also be able to playback video as well to apply
text and video overlays, although that can probably be done simply by
reconfiguring FFDShow to do it. VirtualDub can also do it with
pre-recorded video & with the right plugins.

Now I know that ManyCam will do this, but the text on it wipes out half
my face because it's so big (I know because I've seen the preview on the
ManyCam software). And mind you, this is with the size set to THE
SMALLEST size (Size 8).

If I moved back, my face wouldn't be viewable at all.

The cam I'm using is my old Logitech QuickCam STX (The Microcrap LifeCam
I had been using before died on me).

But now I need video capturing software that's capable of doing it right
off the bat. This way, I won't need to take that extra step of
transcoding the video and risking pixelation as a result of packet loss
and other general video degredation stemming from the transcoding process.

If anybody can help point me in the right direction, it'd be MUCH
appreciated.

Many thanks in advance :D

Cheers :D

[videoblogging] H264 encoded movies

2008-07-31 Thread RICHARD
So I finally persuaded a client to encode their web movies to .h264 instead
of Real Media.

I'm using Apple's Compressor to encode .h264 video from a FCP 6 project.
By default, Compressor uses the .mov extension when compressing to .h264

Will The new .h264 friendly version of Flash play a .mov file encoded as
.h264?
Or does it have to have a .mp4 or some other extension?

Will Windows play a .h264 encoded web video without Quicktime installed?

What is the best file extension/method for maximum compatibility with .h264
encoded web movies?

Thanks,

Richard

Richard,

I'm fairly positive that the extension of the file doesn't matter as long as
it's encoded in h264.

Re: [videoblogging] H264 encoded movies

2008-07-31 Thread Michael Verdi
Yes, some flash players can play H.264 encoded movies - it doesn't
matter if they have .mp4, .m4v or .mov as the extension. What matters
is that they're encoded with H.264. The JW FLV Media Player
 and the
FlowPlayer will both play H.264 videos.

You can watch these on Mac, Win and Linux (inside the flash player)
with latest couple of versions of the Flash plugin - you don't have to
have quicktime installed.
