TurnHere.com, who are an agency who match up filmmakers with small

You can offer free 1 minute videos to small businesses, and Turnhere
will pay you $200 to make them.

It's a very small amount of money, and is undercutting other people
who are trying to do the same thing on an individual basis.

But the requirements are much lower than your average bespoke video
job. It's pretty much video by numbers. Turn up for an hour, shoot
an interview with the proprietor, shoot some B roll, cut a 1 minute
 film, get paid $200.

I also know a local business who is selling 3 minute films to local
 businesses for £1000-£1500 ($1700-2300)

 Anyway, there it is

yeah guys, I dont mean to over-emotionalize the project. I just
happened to have a camera during a pretty crazy life moment. I feel
its good to share this stuffversus keep all quiet. death
 especially.

remember that when we all started, the excitement was recording life.
Being able to make movies out of the drama of our everyday lives
while still working and going about the day. No longer do we hav to
stop everything to make a movie.

So me being able to record at my mom's death bed was just a function
of always having a camera on me...and being in the habit of recording
 my life.

I hope I see other people's experience with all kinds things as time
moves on. Ultimately though it's about being ready when these
opportunities arise. I recorded those 3 days with ZERO plan. I was
just there. Actually recording even helped me focus on what was
actually happening with my family and mom. Made me appreciate the
 moments much more.

If anyone is too sad, watch the video we made a baby being born this year:

Ryanne and I shot all this on a $150 Flip camera with no mic.

 NaVloPoMo Chain rules

 1) Length: 90 seconds max. It can be shorter.
 2) Your video must be inspired in some way by something from the
previous day's video video. You *don't* have to explain the
connection. It can be obvious or *not at all*. You can draw on a
person, object or activity - or anything in the way the video is made
 - picture, music, style, etc.

3 minutes 54 seconds is quite a way over 90 seconds. But never mind,
the video works in its own way. A little bit BackStory esque on
the thouoght processes that go into producing these videos. Very cool.

OK. I've got to get this off my chest.

I think that HD is massively overrated for shooting videoblog posts of
 people talking.
Or even videoblog posts of pretty things.
That beautiful video I posted by Jay the other day, with all those
super detailed little moving photographic moments - that was 320x240.

If you're Robert Croma, and you're doing something insanely visually
beautiful at a large scale, great.

But it's about the skill and artistry, not the resolution. Liss
produces more beauty than most of us can handle, at 640x360. Speakman
 at 320x240.

If you only want a cheap pocket camera for videoblogging, why is
 resolution your priority?

Why not get a camera that shoots much better images and colours at
 lower res video?

And is great in Low Light - surely one of the most important things of
 all for videoblogging?

I've always been impressed by the visuals and low light capabilities
of the good Canon point and shoots. Although they are getting sucked
 into HD now.

Nokia's blogger marketing people sent me a Nokia N86, which their ex-
Kodak imaging chief has put a lot of effort into - a beautiful Zeiss
lens and great processor. Shoots lovely video at 640x480, and great
photographs at 8MP. Or even 5MP. That's a *phone* that shoots better
quality video than your Kodak or your Flip.

If you're not convinced by any of that, but you believe in energy
conservation and limiting your emissions, then consider this: a report
by McKinsey published before the explosion in HD video predicted that
data centers would outstrip airlines in carbon emissions by 2020.
Think about the energy costs of uploading *and* transcoding *and*
storing *and* delivering all the multiple formats of your video
(YouTube converts to and stores 3 copies: flv, mp4, HD) hundreds or
thousands of times. And the power required by your computer to edit

It even has a remote which is essential for solo video blogging.
Only downside seems to be lack of swivel head, so I won't be able to

I was considering the Canon FS200 SD card camcorder (looking for

Zi6 was my option to get into vlogging, when I started into this I had an
iPhone that did not do video. I now own a 3GS now if I have a spur of the
moment vlog I do it on the 3GS and upload it directly to TwitVid, there is a
link on my blog to my TwitVids and as many will see there are more TwitVids
than there are blog entries on my blog :)

Don't get me wrong - I'm having some angry go at you or anybody in
particular. The tools are out there, they're cheap and that's what
everybody's using. More than anything, I'm frustrated with the
manufacturers selling products competing using numbers as if they're a
measure of quality. And the real reason I get worked up about it is
all the file sizes and energy usage. It just feels we're being forced
to be excessive at a time when we're supposed to be going the other
way. I obviously have a lot of latent guilt about geek energy
 consumption.

And is great in Low Light - surely one of the most important

I've always been impressed by the visuals and low light capabilities

Nokia's blogger marketing people sent me a Nokia N86, which their

Re: [videoblogging] Re: Kodak Zi8 for blogging?

2009-10-23 Thread Ernie
Hehehe a fabulous reply lol :)

I see Rupert¹s point totally. But there are many reasons why people vlog,
the kit they feel comfy in using can also be part of that process. I am
comfy with my Zi6 when I got into this stuff I had an iPhone at that time
iPhone did not do video. I naturally moved to Zi8 and have blogged and
tweeted about the Zi8. The reason I use them both on my blog at
ernmander.com is I wanted a uniform picture size on the blog, that size I
wanted was 614 width chosen because of my Dads failing eyesight. Even if a
manufacturer make paid to jet me across countries the size of video on my
vlog will remain that quality because of my father.

For mobile as in true mobile vlogging I use my shiny iPhine 3GS and upload
them to Twitvid. My points may not be taken as I know I hold no weight in
this area. I vlog for my own reasons, the vlogs at ernmander.com are leading
to something.
