I tried both firefox and IE (since occasionally you
can't call up a page in firefox). I got a bad link on both of them.
Very frustrating. I can, however, get rocketboom.

[videoblogging] Katrina Vlogs - Where Are They?

2005-09-01 Thread Kunga
I know there is a heated discussion about the propriety of mentioning
the word Katrina in a post.

But where the hell are all the Katrina Vlogs? I can't find any of it
in this political discussion about if we should be allowed to type
that word in a post. The problem is nobody made a NEW string from
scratch to tell us where the stuff is. This is that NEW STRING.

Links Please?

Re: [videoblogging] Katrina Vlogs - Where Are They?

2005-09-01 Thread Allen Weiner

There are a small handful of postings on Yourtube, and if you go to the Citizen Journalism sites of CNN and MSNBC there are a few there as well. I am somewhat surprised overt he lack of Vlog postings, but those onsite are no doubt more concerned about coming out alive than shooting video. What I mostly have seen online is video from WWL-TV and hijacked clips from CNN.

I imagine people are either:

a) Without running water, gas, power, etc, they are either unable or
simply too concerned with other things to worry about shooting, editing
and compressing video
or
b) The video they are shooting, editing and compressing is far more
valuable to the television networks than on their vlogs, so they are
selling it to the major cable networks (I've seen several amateur shot
video clips today on the major news networks)
or
c) With the fact that the cable news channels are offering nearly 24x7
coverage of the damaged areas, they feel they don't have much of a story
to tell that isn't already being told.

Nobody said nobody could talk about Katrina. This seems like a
legitimate question, although misguided. I don't know what the hell
you're talking about with strings though.

I was surprised myself until I thought about it and
realized that anybody who is THERE to film probaby has no way of getting to a
computer to get it posted. Or at least, as you point out, that would not
be the top priority.
