Re: [videoblogging] Re: Rocketboom on CBS news

2005-08-22 Thread Kunga
Great Job!
Check out my article with embedded video at FutureMedia. I have links
to the websites of all the parties involved including Les Moonves,
the chair of CBS who, it turns out, is in the Wikipedia. Links to
Andrew, Amanda, and Zadi Diaz’s as well as the CBS page for Jim
Axelrod. 11 links in my story including the Ambrosia Software site of
the software used to make the quicktime version. I learned from Chuck
Olsen how to make the QT movie (I have the same software Snapz Pro X
2.0.2, he used) and then made another one myself with better audio
and a CBS News cover frame. Thanks Chuck. You all are free to use it
instead if you like it better.

Because of the links, re-recording and editing that CBS piece in
Final Cut Pro 4.5 and the embedded video, it took me all weekend to
get that one small post done.

Does anyone know how to keep the vertical correct when you take a
piece through FCP? Chuck and I both lost about 20 vertical pixels in
the process. Note the black bars above and below the video in the
normal 240 high frame. The original Snapz Pro X recording does not
have those bars. The video is slightly squished vertically. I would
love to know the work around to get rid of this.

Anyone?

Hi Doron,
Please describe links that you send to the list.

Without a description, everyone has to click the link to figure out
what it is.

** This link goes to a QuickTime video of the CBS report. **

I've already seen it.

[videoblogging] Re: Rocketboom on CBS News

2005-08-21 Thread Steve Watkins

To me it will only become clear when we see what other advantages the
'little guy' has against the giants, when the giants finally arrive on
the scene.

Its clear that so far an advantage of the little independent vs the
giant is the same story of old - size. We hear tales recently that
those who work for the giants are well aware that the size of the
beast slows it down, makes it unable to siezze on new territory,
wheras the nimbler little unconstrained videobloggers dont face the
same hurdles.

I dont see how personal videoblogs will be threatened by the giants in
any way, you wont really be competing against them so theres no
competition to lose.

Videoblogs that are more along the 'show' format and that have a
mindset along the lines of actually wanting as many viewers as
possible, possibly generating revenue etc, well I guess there will be
some competition there.

Im hoping the arrival of giants will encourage more thought and
discussion on the content side of things. We have been shouting about
the advertising and control baggage that they bring will inevitably
bring with them, but looking on the positive I really hope they
encourage people to up their game when it comes to content.

The number one rason why Im not videoblogging today is content. It
seems to have become topical again recently, though I missed the
relevant video conference, Ive noticed a few recent videoblogs mention
it, and there was a good rant from Bluestein & Weagel on such matters
too recently, Im half surprised I didnt see it discussed here, there
was some good but hitting critique of this place. Prove were not a
cult by being capable of taking the piss out of ourselves, thats what
I say.

[videoblogging] Re: Rocketboom on CBS News

2005-08-21 Thread Andrew Baron

Thanks for the really amazing words everyone!!!

I didnt think the story would be that big of deal; I hear just a bunch old people mostly still
watch the news on TV.

But I have never yet seen such a dramatic increase in activity around a single instant. Our
site and e-mail intake has been entirely off the wall!

Its been everything from little kids who want to figure it out to major media executives
talking about getting hit by bricks to the head.

Also, I guess CBS is often syndicated because people have been writing in saying that they
saw it on TV in Africa, China, Japan and the UK.

Anyway, it seems like the story was put together well enough for people to get the idea.

My favorite part was when Jim Axelrod was standing on the roof with their billion dollars
worth of broadcast equipment saying you don't need all of this anymore.

The other day I got a tour of the CBS studios including meeting a bunch of the people on
the floor and I got to see how the system works, etc - what an amazing experience. As Eric
Rice said, "humbling".

The people there are all entirely privy to the changes that are coming on. They almost all
feel helpless and stressed because they know their organization literally can not move as
swiftly.

Interesting times!

What great coverage on CBS.  I'd just like to
inject a technical note for anyone who found clicking on the url didn't fully
load and play the video.  Perhaps it is my computer (but I'm sure I'm not
the only one), but if I copy the link and then paste it in the Windows Explorer
window directly, it loads and plays.

And, wow, Amanda was chosen from
one-hundred applicants.  Naively, I'd been thinking the producer just
happened to know such a beautiful and talented woman.  That touches
obliquely on a controversial subject here.  It really does pay to
advertise.
