[Videolib] Looking for The Glass Menagerie on dvd
Good Morning, Does anyone know if the Joanne Woodward version of The Glass Menagerie is available for purchase on dvd? Our VHS tape has bitten the dust. So far, I can only find it on Region 2. I found one web site Forgotten Cinema that is selling a copy for $14.95, but I've never heard of them. Thanks in advance for your help with this. Apparently, Universal holds the rights to the Paul Newman directed (1987) film but never has given it a proper DVD release. Just VHS (and i think laserdisc). ben -Original Message- From: Jean Reese jre...@mtsu.edu To: videolib videolib@lists.berkeley.edu Sent: Thu, Dec 8, 2011 5:41 am Subject: [Videolib] Looking for The Glass Menagerie on dvd Good Morning, Does anyone know if the Joanne Woodward version of The Glass Menagerie s available for purchase on dvd? [Videolib] Free tape!
Hi all Our old friend Mark Kopp, formerly on this list, has a ton of vhs stuff to give away (the unfortunately result of a library video collection liquidation, I think). I have to do some very extreme weeding of our remaining 16mm films. (Losing their storage space. Space for VHS DVDs is not effected, fortunately.) Do you have archives or other places you'd suggest I contact, who might want to give some reels a new home? (I've sent films to the Chicago Film Archive, Harvard's, and have a list to go to David in Rhode Island.) [Videolib] How many checkouts before a video starts giving problems?
I have been in this position for just under three years, and recently, I have started seeing more DVDs give out (skip, hang up, etc.) after fewer checkouts. Right now I have 2 different videos that have been checked out 16 and 17 times respectively. Both have issues that make them unwatchable. We visually check every DVD when it comes back, and if it looks like it might be scratched, we clean it and watch it to see if it works. What are others' experiences in this regard? This is a non-scientific survey, but I am sure I am going to start being questioned so I'd like to know what others see. Thanks! Re: [Videolib] Film archives
I'm doing the very same thing, Barb. At least I still have some film fans in town, and I've passed the list to a couple of universities, who are taking about a total of 150 of our films. Some film Depts. want film for practising their editing. That still leaves 4,000 more to find homes. If only 16mm wasn't so heavy, and shipping so costly - I'm not about to ship to Boston or Chicago. Re: [Videolib] Film archives
Uncanny--I am also working on this. I am reviewing my 16mm list and checking it thrice. Our films are in a basement compact storage space, which is undergoing renovation for an expanded Archives. Our collection is quite small now, but yet I find it hard to part with these. Yet I feel someone has to do it. Is there a way to determine which particular films have value? (I worked with collectors when de-accessioning my lp collection). Today I was asked if Can't Take No More , available in the Internet Archives, might be valuable because the US Gov. required all the prints to be destroyed. For now I am holding onto all prints of feature films in response to request from faculty, even though we don't have a decent working classroom projector! So this is just a matter of sentimentality I know, since we have them all on DVD or VHS. We would never use a 16mm as back-up! I also know a faculty member who integrates 16mm films into her experimental videos, and have hesitated giving these to her. But I feel I have a responsibility to keep them intact as long as someone has an interest, like David, in actually showing them. Reely random thoughts.
