[Videolib] SFC: Deadline for grants extended to April 1, 2012!

2012-03-02 Thread Daniela Bajar
Dear Friends,

I thought some of you may be interested in the following opportunity or
know somebody who would benefit from it. Feel free to send it around!

SPANISH FILM CLUB: DEADLINE FOR GRANTS EXTENDED TO APRIL 1, 2012!

A new Initiative by Pragda, Spanish Film Club offers grants to help
universities and educational institutions bring the very best in
contemporary Spanish and Latin American cinema to campuses hoping to
introduce students to the language and cultures of these territories.

The inventive model allows universities to select a minimum of five films
from a catalogue of 18 new titles to create a film festival. Representing
10 countries, the films have been carefully selected by a team of experts
and are backed by the most important festivals and film critics.

This system also encourages the organization of virtual Q&A sessions with
the filmmakers online and offers an online wall for the exchange of ideas
between students, professors, and creators around the country.

The extended grant deadline is April 1, 2012.
Learn more and apply at www.spanishfilmclub.com.

[Videolib] Low-cost Training Videos?

2012-03-02 Thread Meghann Matwichuk

Hello Vid-Libbers,

Thanks to all who helped me fill out my list of 'African diaspora in
Europe' videos -- much appreciated! I have another question for the CW
today -- thanks in advance for any thoughts / ideas on the topic.

I have a Criminal Justice faculty who is passing along a question from a
prison warden with whom she works. The warden is wondering if there are
any companies that rent educational / training dvds that would be useful
for the inmate population. All of the companies that produce training
films I'm thinking of are very expensive, even as rentals -- with such a
limited market, I can understand why that is, but given the tiny budget
she's working with, I'm trying to think outside the box. I've
encouraged her to contact distributors directly to see if lower rates
could be negotiated if there are titles she's specifically interested
in, but this is such a unique request that I thought it might be worth
tossing it to the group. Does anyone have any experience with this kind
of thing or know of low-cost training videos that would cover topics
that would help this population?

Have a great weekend,
