[Videolib] Help - Prof wants ultimate social justice film

2012-09-17 Thread Bergman, Barbara J
Collective wisdom,
She wants something for social justice class that addresses ageism, racism,
sexism, with or without GLBT perspective.
Suggestions? Does such a film even exist?
She already uses Southern Poverty Law Center's Shadow of Hate in different
class.

(This is what I got after my 3rd query asking for clarification about what
she's actually looking for. First description implied wanted titles about hate
crimes, but that apparently wasn't it.)

Thanks,
Barb

Peter,
I worked on a good doc that fits right in called GERRYMANDERING. I think
the title is self explanitory. It focuses in particular on Texas, CA NY
and how the census redistricting was used for political advantage by both
parties.
Web site is here. http://www.gerrymanderingmovie.com/

I have posted on it a few times on videonews. You can buy it off the site.
There is no retail copy yet but Passion River has one scheduled for
mid-Oct. Since the film comes from the director it can be bought with
lifetime PPR streaming.

[Videolib] Films about Elections in the US

2012-09-17 Thread Patrick Nagle
Film: Harlem Black Hope
Go to:
http://planetgroupentertainment.squarespace.com/harlem-black-hope-for-library/

Four years ago we embedded our director in Harlem for 8 weeks prior to the
election. He stayed in a cheap hotel and made friends with the neighborhood
folks. They gave their time to him as he documented their feelings about the
pending election. The film we made is not a pro-Democrat Obama film as there
are actually a few Republicans there also. Who knows...we have licensed the
film to networks in Europe and Asia. Oddly, very few university people in the
USA seem interested.

Peter should take a look
