[Videolib] nomination of documentary films for Notable Videos for Adults Committee of ALA VRT

2015-10-27 Thread Highby, Wendy
Librarians,

Have you seen a documentary film or educational video (released within the past
two years) that deserves attention? If so, please take a moment to nominate
the video for inclusion in the roster of films that will be juried by the
Notable Videos for Adults Committee of the Video Round Table. At the January
2016 Midwinter Conference of the American Library Association, the members of
the Committee will meet, discuss the merits of those titles nominated, and then
select fifteen films for inclusion on the final list of outstanding titles.
This list helps librarians serving adults identify and select the best
offerings in the video marketplace.

Librarians may nominate films by reading the criteria and filling out the form
at the following URL: http://www.ala.org/vrt/notablevideos/form. You must
have viewed the program in its entirety before submitting your nomination form.
At a minimum, please include the title of the production and distributor, as
well as your contact information. The criteria for selection is explained
here: http://www.ala.org/vrt/notablevideos/notablevideoscriteria. The
foregoing page also describes all five categories of videos eligible for
inclusion: animation, documentary/educational, personal essay, performance and
video art, and how-to or instructional videos.

Thank you in advance for your participation.

Best,

Wendy Highby

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.

[Videolib] Vacancy to fill on the Notable Videos for Adults Committee

2015-03-20 Thread Highby, Wendy
Hello Librarians,

The Notable Videos for Adults Committee has one vacancy to fill this year. We
aim for a balanced mix of librarians from academic, public, and special
libraries who work with media and serve adult populations. This year, we are
looking for one librarian from a public or special library to balance out the
committee. This is an opportunity to serve on a rewarding and enjoyable
professional committee at the national level. Representatives or employees of
video producers or distributors are ineligible.

Each member will serve a term of two years, with a maximum number of
consecutive terms not to exceed two, for a total of four years of service.

All committee members are required to:

  * Be members of the American Library Association (ALA) and the Video Round
Table (VRT),

  * Attend ALA Midwinter for two consecutive years (Boston in January 2016
and Atlanta in January 2017),

  * View and evaluate a substantial number of videos leading up to ALA
Midwinter (last year, 64 titles were screened).

For complete information about the committee please visit our web page:
http://www.ala.org/vrt/notablevideos/

If you are interested in volunteering for the committee, please respond
directly to me by April 10, 2015. Indicate your membership status with ALA and
VRT, your ability to commit to attending ALA Midwinter, and include information
regarding your experience with videos (e.g., collection development, reviewing,
viewer's advisory, etc.). Please contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Wendy Highby
