[VIHUELA] Re: contributions to this list
So I call on all those lurkers who are even too shy to contribute emails, let us know what you are up to, ask questions. Rob, as a semi lurker here's what I'm up to, I built my own Vihula about two years ago with the help of the people on this list. it was in F but I've modified it since to G at 59cm I use d'addario folk nylon strings, as the sound board is a little thick and needs modern strings to drive it. sorry no gut here!! for music I'm playing my way through the renaissance archive on torban.org, I love the simple melodys and at 70 in april I don't think I will get much futher, bach and wiess can rest in peace, I will not destroy there music. bob -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=billkilpatrick - Sent from Yahoo! #45; a smarter inbox. -- -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/

This may also be one of the ways to explain the 'simplicity' of the two-bar arrangement of the vihuela, together with the thicker soundboard (in comparison with that of the lute), as directly inherited from the early viol. [VIHUELA] double or single course?
While I'm waiting to get round to making a proper vihuela, I've been trying to play some of the music for it. I have a small guitar in F which I've used a capo on to bring it into G, with the quality of modern guitar strings , this produces plenty of volume and a nice tone, So how important to the sound of the Vihuela is the double courses? I've always felt that the double course on early instruments was due to the lack of good string technology, so if I make an instrument with single couses, is it a vhihuela? or a small guitar, for playing old music? the groups advise would be helpful, bob Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/m2/ To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
