It’s very likely an analog board issue, rather than an issue of software or the 
hard disk.

What exactly does the vertical stripe effect look like?

Probably not a hard drive issue. That’s more akin to a memory issue. Try 
opening it up and reseating the RAM SIMMs before anything else.

What OS Should my Macintosh SE run?

Hi,

I recently obtained a Macintosh SE for 10 dollars, and i am getting a 
vertical stripe effect on the monitor. I do not know if this is a hard 
drive failure, but I assume that is the problem.

I wanted to know, if I could find what system software my Macintosh SE 
Model 5011.
