...and that won't work, because the Classic not only lacks Color Quickdraw
in
its ROMs, but only has a 68000 CPU, which won't run QuickTime anyway.

Just sound, or is there video involved too?

The files I am wanting to run are simlpy sound, about 3 to 5 seconds in
length, there is one file about 48 seconds long but i could do without that
one. My problem is I need some way to play the files, other than quicktime.
Soundapp will only take me so far, i got the files converted to mac 7 sound
files, so at least it recognises the files as sound files. Now all I need is
some for of a player.

If you put them in the Startup Items folder, they'll play at startup. I don't
think there *is* any way to make them play while the extensions are loading,
though.

Can't restart IIci

2002-07-30 Thread dan_A

--
Can't restart IIci

Hi list-
My computer was working well. I'm using 7.5.3, I have the original
drive that I use for start up and a 2gb external with a duplicate OS.
There is a supermac video card, cache card, an ether net card and 32
mb RAM. I had gotten rid of a 17" NEC monitor (stupidly) and am now
running an apple 14" off the built-in card. The SuperMac doesn't seem
to like the 14".

As I said everything was running and I even had the IIci operating on
my network. Then...I tried to force a start from the external drive
using a key combination which killed something. The keys were shift,
option, command, delete...which I use on my S900. Now I can't
restart. I tried zapping the PRAM and got no zapping activity. When I
start, the monitor lights to white (just a flicker) and then back to
black. I hear what sounds like a hd crackle for a few seconds and
then just the fan. I disconnected the external SCSI and ethernet
card. No help. I removed the video card, no difference. Tried to
start from 7.5 floppy (disk first aid)-no activity. Took the machine
apart, cleaned it, changed the original battery, checked to see if
all the ram and cards were seated, put it together and nothing. I
don't know if I fried something or I'm missing something simple or
what. Any ideas out there? Thanks for any help.

Try holding *just* the option key for a few seconds with the SuperMac card
(which one is it, BTW?) installed.

try hooking the monitor to the Supermac card and holding down the spacebar
on restart. If that doesn't do it, take the Supermac card out and try
zapping pram.

I tried Just the option key. No go. I reconnected the monitor to the
SuperMac card (The info printed on the card says J3 U1 2. I've long
forgotton the model number since I bought the machine new in 1989?
and reactivated it a few months ago.) and held down the space
bar--nothing. I've had the monitor connected to the built in card
with the SuperMac card removed, prior to the battery change and
couldn't zap the PRAM then. Right now I still have the monitor
attached to the SuperMac card... did I fry something?
