You know I thought that too. But I looked at their webpage and saw they
had some parts I was really needing so I gave them a call. Apparently
they're still around (I ended up ordering over $80 worth of parts for my
rather diverse list of projects) and they showed up. They guy I talked to
on the phone said they were still around and weren't planning on getting
out of the Macintosh market. So I guess that's as definitive as it gets.

I thought Shreve Systems sold off 100% of their
Macintosh inventory to concentrate soley on their
Shreve Audio business?
They pulled a trick that has become annoyingly common at auctions
these days. They didn't like the prices they were getting so they
just didn't sell a bunch of the stuff despite having bids on it.
Most auctions include language that allows them to do this, but it
changes the operation from a bonafide auction into what's really a
solicitation for offers. I think it's fraudulent to call an event
an auction if such a clause is included, but that's the way it is.

CRA Systems (AKS Radius Vintage) pulled the same shenanigans at their
auction in Waco several years ago. They must be cousins or
something.

I became disgusted with AOL's very slow browser waa back when I was
connected with a Packard Bell 80486/33.

Absolutely, the AOL browser is slow. But there's no reason you can't use
another browser after connecting with AOL (I use iCab and NS). I am generally
happy with AOL as it has free access numbers in many Pennsylvania cities I
travel to, as well as good coverage all over the US.

That's a good point. Every Mac I've taken in has had the original OS on it

I've learned the hard way not to trust the system installed on a donated
computer. Now I always erase the hard drive and either do a fresh install
(System 7 and below) or a copy of a previous fresh install (because
installing OS 8 or later takes so long!).

Apple gives away System 7.5.3 (and the 7.5.5 update), so you are pretty
safe putting that on a giveaway computer. But it is rarely the best
choice for the end user, so I ignore the legalities and do what I think
is right.

You say you are making a web site and will charge something for the
computers. I recommend you just give them away free and don't do any
publicity.

In this area the wise do not go to auctions unless they are advertised
as absolute auctions . meaning that items go to the highest
bidder no matter how low that bid might be.
