If you can't make it go smoothly up and down the carriage rod, then
you've got to
recycle it.

But first, do the "power on hold the button down for twenty seconds and
print a phantom
page with the cartridge out" thing. If after lubing it it still won't
go then it's time to play taps.

What I do is lightly lube the slider on which the cartridge runs. I
look to see if ink is spilled
onto the rest-spot and surrounding, and I clean it with alcohol then I
run a test in which
I move the cartridge frame back and forth a number of times by hand,
start and hold the power button for twenty or so seconds and see if it
attempts to print a page with the ink cartridge uninstalled.

If it gets that far you may have saved the printer. If it keeps
jamming and erroring out
then it's a recyclable.

How do you get the Style Writer to come up in the chooser?
Thomas
It has to have been loaded in the software install. It would be present
in the Extensions
Folder if it was. If not, get it from Apple's website for older
software, or download Tome Viewer the utility and open the tome that
contains the printer software on your installer disk (s).

2004-10-16 Thread Ian Nixon
Hi people...
I recently bought a PowerBook 165c on eBay. It came with lots of
extras, such as a StyleWriter. But, when I turn the StyleWriter on, I
only get a small mechanical noise and the Error and Power lights flash
at the same time.

I looked this up in the Service Manual, and it said that the cartridge
is jammed. I got it free (with a lot of ink on my hands), and I'm
still getting the same error.

Any ideas?
