Word Processor on Classic II

2005-01-12 Thread LbtJudge
I have 2 Classic II's with 10 MB RAM, one with 80 MB one with 500 MB hard
drives. I can use Microsoft Word 4.0 or 5.1 on either or both. Which would be
better? Or another Word Processor altogether?

And usb port in the back.
1 GB max RAM, I don't think it's a road apple.
Max 80GB and max 1.4something Ghz can be a called road apple features.
But it's the OS that finally determines what the machine is.

You can even run Word 6, but I believe that the best compromise for

I believe the version of WordPerfect equivalent to Word 5.1 at that

Mac IIci web Server

2005-01-12 Thread Thomas Burns
Does anyone know anything about hosting a website behind a Linksys router?
I have Quid Pro Quo running on a IIci, but for some reason I can't seem to
hit the server from the world outside my LAN.
I've got port forwarding set up for 80 and 21 to go to that machine.

Thanks!

Re: Mac IIci web Server

2005-01-12 Thread Chris Fohl
Just a few things to consider:
a) make sure you can see it from within the LAN via the LAN IP first.
b) you have to be outside the LAN to see the WAN IP it's routed to.
c) if your router is web browser configurable you want something
other than port 80 since the router is already using it for WAN
access requests.

I would choose Word 5.1 instead of 4.0.

I think a few people think Word 5.1 is still the best Word Microsoft

Don't know about port forwarding but I seem to recall that there
is a feature on the router where you can open one URL to the
Internet. I think you have to set the URL of the machine you
want to provide the service.

If you're accessing it from a dynamic dns service/WAN IP, depending on

I can see IIci on my LAN, and FTP files to it from my XP box.
It is a dynamic dns service, but I have the program that updates the IP
every 10 mins or so.
I have ports 80 and 8080 forwared to that machine and it's also outside the
DMZ.
A few people on the outside have been able to hit it and someone told me
their security level was low on their browser. Could that have something to
do with it? Most people who hit it just get a time out.

I swear I'm going to squeeze every bit of usefulness out of this IIci. lol

I think the Mac Mini is the natural heir to the niche of the LC. I made a few
comments about it on my blog...you might want to read them:

I have five compelling potential uses for the thing listed.

I wonder if Mr. Flat Pack Mac is going to weigh in on this.

I was able to access the website, although in your link it says
'atanta' instead of 'atlanta'.

I have ports 80 and 8080 forwared to that machine and it's also
outside the DMZ.
A few people on the outside have been able to hit it and someone told

something to do with it? Most people who hit it just get a time out.

I swear I'm going to squeeze every bit of usefulness out of this IIci.

I have Quid Pro Quo running on a IIci, but for some reason I can't
seem to hit the server from the world outside my LAN.
I've got port forwarding set up for 80 and 21 to go to that machine.

Thanks!

Maybe, some of them use a different port as a little bit of extra
security and to keep 80 free. And if it was using 80 the OP would
have seen the login page.

The power button on the back is probably a feature. The mini is so
small and light that if you pushed the button it would just push the
computer. By putting it in the back it is easier to rest you hand on
top to hold it in place. :)

There are probably other similar problem like the cables pulling it
off the desk. Hmmm maybe the Mini 2 will have pre-applied velcro to
help keep it in place.

I believe the version of WordPerfect equivalent to Word 5.1 at that
