I don't know. You have a different mind set now with OS X. Personally, I
think what makes a Mac a Mac is the operating system. Fundamentally, we have
always shared hardware with the PC.

I'm no real mac'er, but I'd say it is the software/hardware integration. The
OS is decent, but not vastly superior IMHO, and neither is the hardware.

If there is something to it, it is the combination of both.

Half of the PC OS problems are due to the infinite amount of hardware it has
to run on.

Re: FW: Best said reference yet [Re: Oh my....... Intel CPU's???]

2005-06-20 Thread Pat
I have been looking on intel site for the particular p4 that apple would
be using, but searching even for just the word apple yields little. I
was curious to know which particular pentium4 apple uses or will use. I
have built several pentium 4 systems, one with dual processors, so spent
a bit of time reading the intel specs for the 865PE and 875PE chipsets
in the 478 pin config. Does anyone know what name the apple intel chip
will go by, assuming it is a pentium4 ? Links are welcome.

Cheers, Pat

Just because Intel will be manufacturing the chips

future Macs will be running Pentium 4's. If Apple
gives them specs for a PPC, they'll make it.

They won't be running PPC. The devlopment systems
Apple is shipping out soon have P4's and Apple's been
doing in-house x86 buils of the full OSX since day 1.

There's no reason they're going to use some chip other
than the P4 or one substantially like it. If they
were,
all this other work and shipping development systems
with a P4 would be wasted.

Some of those software companies are definately going
to be optimizing code for the P4. It'd be rather
dumb for Apple to then drop theif first production
Macs with Intel CPUs on the scene with IA64 chips or
anything so different from the P4.
