You'll be playing 'count the pixels' if you run a 475 on a 21" LCD.
They largest screen resolution they generally run well at is
[EMAIL PROTECTED], and that relies on you having a full 1MB of VRAM
installed. As mentioned you need an adapter also.

Personally I'd not bother unless it's your only screen you have to
hand. You'd be much better off with a 15" or a 17" CRT or something
that has a closer native resolution.

You'd need a mac to pc vga adapter and possibly a vga to dvi adapter depending
on the make of the screen...

Oh yeah, max out the vram if at all possible

I'd look for a better video card if I were you. The
LC475 has a PDS slot. If this is being used (many
LC475s have ethernet installed) and you have to use
the internal video (with our without a VGA switch)
definitely take the VRAM up to the max.

Probably with a Mac to VGA adapter, if the screen
has a VGA input. Resolution probably won't be what
you would like, but...

IIfx Mouse problem

2005-11-09 Thread Kyle Koerner

Hi all,
In addition to the hard drive power problem with my IIfx board, another
problem is there too. When I turn the thing on, there is no mouse
movement. Period. You can use the keyboard to navigate, but no mouse.
This happens with different mice/keyboards, different configurations
(ADB port, keyboards, etc), and even different hard drives with
different system folders. Also, Mouse Keys do not work. They can be
enabled and the clicking (5 or 0) work, just like on the mouse. Just
no linear movement.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kyle-

Rick,
Sorry, not sure what the actual name is - it's a little square thing
which I can't tell you more about because it is just a scorched
block...

The Mac II does power up, just without a hard drive (i have an external
though). Funny thing is, my external case (AppleCD 300e) has no
problem with the 5" drive.

Still, any advice?

Mac II resister blown

2005-11-09 Thread Kyle Koerner

Hi all,
Got a Mac II today - or, rather, a Mac IIfx in a II case. Cleaned it,
replaced PRAM batteries with working ones, and powered on once without
drives. PS took a few tries, but did come on. All seemed well, so I
turned it off and added drives (1 FD and a 5" 60 meg HD. Turned this
on, and when the drive started to spin up, a resister, labeled L4 (near
power connector for HD) became red, smoldered, and went *snap* as I
quickly unplugged the power. Is this the drive's fault? It seems to
be in the region of the hard drive power connector.

Another, side issue I noticed was some brown gunk coming from the
processor region. What is this? There aren't any capacitors near
there that could have leaked...

Thanks for any help.

New subscriber

2005-11-09 Thread emsumner
Hi everyone - been browsing the list for a while and decided to subscribe.
Visiting my parents house a couple of weeks ago I saw our old Macs sitting on
the shelf in the storage room, and thought it would be interesting to see if I
could start to get them running again. I did some looking online regarding what
people are doing with them and was astounded! I've got a 512k, SE, and IIcx
currently.
My first project is to get the IIcx up and running. I'm running by a friends
house this afternoon to pick up his Apple 14" monitor to use with it (I've read
it won't work with just a simple adaptor to a VGA+ monitor) and then I'll start
the process of restoring the IIcx to a running state.
One thing I've done so far without a monitor connected, is to plug the IIcx in
and turn it on, I get a power light and the drive spins up, however I don't
hear a boot chime and no HD activity light. I'll open it up and check the
connections tonight. I also tried to boot from a floppy and no go. I've been
reading it could possibly be a bad PRAM battery? Does anyone have any insight
on this? Can I find a replacement at Radio Shack, and are they clipped or
soldered onto the motherboard?
Thanks everyone and looking forward to using my vintage macs again!
