Internal CD-R for Mac IIci
Hi Everyone, I have a question for someone who might know about this. I have two Apple 600e External CD-ROM drives attached to my Mac IIci. I would like to convert one into a simple CD-R burner. Is this possible? If so, what brand of internal CD-R would work or fit inside my Apple 600e and what software would I need that would work with system 7.1 or 7.6.1? Although my Mac IIci only has a 25 Mhz processor, I plan to upgrade it to a Daystar 030 50 Mhz accelerator as soon as I can find one. I also have 128 MB of ram installed and a 3 GB external hard drive attached. I would like to burn HyperCard programs that contain video clips of me using sign language to CD's to send to my sons, who live far away from me. The files are too large for floppy disks. If anyone could give me any information on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, DeVaul -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... TextBridge Classic 3.0h
Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone had a copy of TextBridge Classic 3.0h English. It came with my Apple Color OneScanner, but two of the disks are corrupted. There are three disks, and I would appreciate it if someone could email me disk copies of all three so that I can initialize them and restore them. I would like to use the OCR functions of my scanner, but I cannot because of these three crazy disks. Please email me off-list if you can send them to me. Stacking CD-ROM Drives
Hi again, I have another question regarding the set-up of my Mac IIci. I have two external CD-ROM drives. They are Apple 600e drives, and are quite big. I was wondering if I could stack them on top of each other, as there is no room for both on my computer desk. If so, would this cause interferance in the operation of one or the other? Mac IIci Questions
Hi Everyone -- me again! I have some more questions about my Mac IIci. First off, I am thinking of adding a Daystar 030 Direct Slot 50 Mhz accelerator, but this would require the removal of my Apple Mac IIci cache card. Question: Would this increase or decrease performance? The accelerator card has a math-coprocessor, like the cache card, but I do not know if it has any on-board cache to replace the 32K of cache I would lose. Also, do I need a control panel for this card or is it just plug and play? Secondly, I am thinking about adding 16 MB ram simms to replace my 4 MB ram simms. Can my power supply handle all this extra upgrading? The IIci was originally designed to handle a maximum of 32 MB ram, but they later started manufacturing 8 and 16 MB ram simms for the IIci. I plan to keep my internal 80 MB hard drive, but I have several SCSI devices attached to my Mac IIci. I know there are limitations on the power supply of a Mac IIsi, but are there any on the Mac IIci? Thanks, DeVaul -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... Re: Mac IIci Floppy Problem
Thanks Mark! I just noticed that my Mac IIci does not grab the disk. I must insert it myself, just like on my PB 540c. I guess the vendor pulled a fast one on me. I bought my drive off of eBay. It was billed as an "auto-inject" for the Mac II series, brand new in the box. I assume from what your saying that my floppy drive is actually a PowerMac floppy drive. I will have to sell it and buy the correct one for my Mac IIci now. DeVaul -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... Re: Mac IIci Floppy Problem
Regarding Mark Koan's problem: > I have a ci with 8 megs ram that seems to have a >troubled floppy drive. Just wanted to let you know that my Mac IIci had a funky floppy drive also, so I replaced it with a brand new one and still had the same problem. The floppy drive on my Mac IIci does not let go of the floppy disk after ejecting it and I must pull it out and then go through a series of eject messages before the drive returns to normal. It is very frustrating, but I know it is not the drive itself because that is brand new. I believe it is the commands to the drive that is the problem, but I have no idea how to fix it. I am thinking about replacing the interconnect cable for the floppy drive and seeing if that helps. DeVaul -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... Hmm Well, the idea that my NUBUS slots may be "nuked" is not good, as I tried this with two different motherboards. The Apple 8*24 GC graphics acceleration card seems to be working fine now, though, so maybe it survived. I wonder if testing it with TechTool Pro 2 would reveal any problems with it? For that matter, would it reveal whether any other NUBUS slots on the motherboard are dead? I would like to know before I reinstall my VideoSpigot video capture card, although it too was exposed to this short for a time before I removed it. Also, does anyone know where I can find ram SIMMS for my 8*24 GC card? I read that it can hold up to 10 MB of ram (2 MB on-board and two 4 MB ram SIMMS max). Mac IIci Problem Update
Hi Everyone, First off, I want to thank everyone for the advice they gave on my problem, which for those who do not know or remember what it was, here it is: >Hi, > >I am new to this list and I have a question about a Mac IIci that I rebuilt >and use to make home movies for my genealogy program. > >It worked fine until I had to box it up for a short period of time, then >when I set it back up again, it would not come on. At that point, I had replaced everything inside, so I stepped back and thought for a moment: "What did I change before the problem began?" I had filled two empty ram slots on my Apple 8*24 GC graphics acceleration card with two 4 MB 64 pin ram SIMMS designed for the Mac IIfx. I immediately removed these and guess what? My system started up! No problems at all now. My question: What is the connection between filling ram slots on my graphics card and my system not starting up? The ram SIMMS prevented the system from starting even when I was using on-board video (i.e. by-passing the graphics card entirely). I would like very much to maximize the ram on my 8*24 GC card so that I can use Adobe Photoshop 2.5 and other graphics programs on my Mac IIci. I read somewhere (LEM probably) that the card uses the same 64 pin ram SIMMS as the Mac IIfx, and they fit perfectly. Can any of you vintage Mac gurus offer any ideas on this problem? Mac IIci Problem
Hi, I am new to this list and I have a question about a Mac IIci that I rebuilt and use to make home movies for my genealogy program. It worked fine until I had to box it up for a short period of time, then when I set it back up again, it would not come on. The keyboard, mouse, cache card, pram battery, floppy drive are all new. The monitor is used but works fine with my PowerBook 540c. I replaced the mother board, but still no lights come on. I think the power supply is not working right, but the fan comes on when I turn on the auto-on button behind the computer and stays on, but nothing else happens. No lights come on when I hit the on button on the keyboard ever, and the front lights never come on. I have tried pushing the reset buttons, but no luck there either. Can a power supply unit be bad even if the fan appears to be working? I appreciate any advice anyone may have (other than upgrading, which I have no interest in).
