I've now installed 7.5.3 (+ update to 7.5.5) and now have AppleScript.

Many thanks for your explanation and help Steve.

I wonder if you can extract the AppleScript that came with 7.5.x from the
free 7.5.3 disk tomes? It might be old/young enough to work with 7.1.1...

Should be able to grab the Control Strip Extension and Control Strip Module
folder and have it work great. Works for me on a couple systems. I used the
ones from 8.1, but I've had a couple issues so it would probably be better
to use one from 7.5.5.

A Iifx should be about comparable. Especially since you can load it up

AFAIK, 7.1.1 is the only revision of 7.1 that is compatible with just a few
of the 1st generation PowerMacs.

I don't have documentation at hand at the moment, but as I recall the
above description of 7.1.1 is correct: 7.1 + PowerTalk (another
much-touted Apple technology that was abandoned so quickly hardly
anyone remembers it now--some kind of network conferencing?). It was
7.1.2, I think, that shipped with the first PowerMacs (61xx).

Aye, to each machine, it seems, an operating system that makes it run at its
optimum performance.

In the case ofthe SE, it's all four matched-ram megabytes, System 6.0.8,
and a RAM Disk, loaded with a few of the most commonly used programs.

To keep this a little more On Topic, my 6100 w/ G3 card nearly seems to HATE OS
9.1, while a newly acquired 7100/80 runs as if it were Teflon with OS 8.5.

My IIci hauls with 7.1, and tolerates 7.5.3 pretty readily.

still wonderful. The IIsi and the IIcis and the Fusion PC all adore it.

My SE/30 still runs 6.x but for other reasons; AppleShare v2, which I need

System 7.1 vs. System 7.1.1 (pro)

2002-09-04 Thread Scott Holder

Hey folks,

Recently noticed Gamba's site has a live download for System 7 Pro aka
7.1.1, and thought I'd give it a try since I'm a big 7.1 fan now ;)

At any rate, I was wondering what the exact differences were between 7.1
and 7.1.1, as the only real difference I can find is the PowerTalk and
apparent multi-user-connectivity stuff included.

Is that it? Any new fun stuff? Should I bother upgrading a heavily
customized 7.1 system? (Icons are all from 8.1, OT, Appearance ext, etc,
pretty much everything you can stuff into it. Still only takes 3 megs of
RAM or so)

Incidentally, I'd also be happy to take a link or similar thing as well :)

Also incidently, 7.1 really flies on an '040 ;)

Subject: System 7.1 vs. System 7.1.1 (pro)

AFAIK, 7.1.1 is the only revision of 7.1 that is compatible with just a few
of the 1st generation PowerMacs. You think it flies on an 040? Try it on a
601!

You don't.

version 3, and have scoured the Apple FTP site, but I can't find

7.1 Update 3 is perfectly sufficient for anything that requires 7.1.1 as
long as you install the extras indicated on the Browsers page of the FAQ.

Apple doesn't have any version of Mac OS 7.1 on their ftp site due to
licensing restrictions- go with 753 or 755.
