At any rate, I was wondering what the exact differences were between 7.1 and 7.1.1, as the only real difference I can find is the PowerTalk and apparent multi-user-connectivity stuff included. AFAIK, 7.1.1 is the only revision of 7.1 that is compatible with just a few of the 1st generation PowerMacs. I don't have documentation at hand at the moment, but as I recall the above description of 7.1.1 is correct: 7.1 + PowerTalk (another much-touted Apple technology that was abandoned so quickly hardly anyone remembers it now--some kind of network conferencing?). Re: System 7.1 vs. System 7.1.1 (pro)
Aye, to each machine, it seems, an operating system that makes it run at its optimum performance. In the case ofthe SE, it's all four matched-ram megabytes, System 6.0.8, and a RAM Disk, loaded with a few of the most commonly used programs. To keep this a little more On Topic, my 6100 w/ G3 card nearly seems to HATE OS 9.1, while a newly acquired 7100/80 runs as if it were Teflon with OS 8.5. My IIci hauls with 7.1, and tolerates 7.5.3 pretty readily. Jeff It doesn't fly on an SE, I downgraded mine to 6.0.8 'cause I got fed up with it taking a few years to boot.
