Re: DOS Card for IIfx

2003-12-05 Thread Marten van de Kraats

I didnt want to run any form of windows (maybe win 3.1 for kicks) mostly for
dos just to see how it worked on the mac. The technology is old enough that
I figure the cards could be found rather inexpensively.
Somehow I think that running windows me or xp on a IIfx would be even
more of kick! I understand that you can't go much further than 98
with a 486 card, but that would probably still be a bit more modern
than 7.6.1 (the offical IIfx max) or are these systems comparable (I
don't have much knowledge about the windows os)?

Does the PC program run in a window on the mac monitor or do you have to
have an extra monitor?

Yes, there were several 16 bit wireless cards made.

Hmm, a 486, even a 33mhz, would run Win98 fairly well. Especially
LitePCed. Would be amusing if it could be made to work, you'd have an
emulator with wireless capability when the Mac doesn't.

OrangePC cards would work in a IIfx (or any NuBus Mac that'll take 12
inch cards).

AST made a dual card 286, then Orange Micro bought
it from AST, improved it then made a third one on
a single card. AST's maxed out at 4 meg RAM while
Orange Micro's versions could take at least 12.

I've not heard of a 386 NuBus card.

Orange Micro went on to produce several 486 NuBus
cards, at least one with a 16 bit PC Card slot in
the back. Hmmm, if there's such a thing as a 16bit
wireless network PC Card. ;) Some have Soundblaster
compatable audio too. Only the later models have
16 or 24 bit video support. They never made a
Pentium NuBus card, their first PCI card was a 486
and then they went pentium.

These all used to turn up on eBay quite often,
not so much these days. Orange Micro stopped making
all their PC cards for Mac a year or two ago because
with $299 Lindows PCs from walmart.com they couldn't
compete. Any Mac owner who wants a PC too will most
likely find the space to setup another box.

This subject is much more on-topic for the
mac-n-dos list, which has been kind of postless for
a while. Join up and ask there. :)

DOS Card for IIfx

2003-12-04 Thread Powermac
What DOS cards were made that would work in a IIfx nubus system? Do they use
just 1 slot or 2?

I have a few empt slots left and was looking to see what toys would work in
them. I have a supermac video card nubus jackhammer scsi card installed
already.

I might install a video spigot card (the original with just a rca video
jack), a doubleup board (no idea where to get drivers) and a storm dsp board
(no idea where to find drivers for this either).

Hopefull I wont kill the power supply with all the addon cards.
