Macintosh is to computers as Mercedes is to cars.

Hmm, so what's Apple's equivalent of the new Maybach
made by Mercedes? ;)

 17 TiG4 Powerbook ?

Is butt ugly viewed open from above ;) I think the 12 'PoweriBook' is

I think saying Apple computers in general to one compamnies cars works
better if you compare them model for model.

As a Brit, and a web-designer for a Land Rover paerts company I can't
help but use Land Rover as an example. Sorry to all you others not
familiar with Land Rover's range, check out http://www.landrover.com if
you are confused.

eMac - Freelander 3-door soft top (I hate soft-top SUVs!!) - looks OK
but not great under the hood, a lot of noise compared to the 'go'
factor.

iMac - Freelander 5-door station wagon - a fraction under powered and
not at all a 'go anywhere' wagon, but looks great, has room for the
kids. It's got go (if you get a V6 Freelander) and it isn't a bad
family car.

iBook/12 Powerbook - Discovery - Very popular, nice to look at, and
available at a reasonable price. Go anywhere capability without looking
butt ugly (like a Sony VAIO ;) ) and as good. Higher models
(Powerbook/Discovery V8) seriously powerful for their size/weight
category.

G4 PowerMac - Defender (see black Land Rover Defenders in Tomb Raider
Film) - looks like it does a mean, hard job and looks good, or bad,
depending on your opinion (I like Defenders, if they are done right,
personally it think they look like 'true grit' machines, bit like a
Humvee). Has much room for specialist applications and bolt-one bits
and is a mature design.

G4 Powerbook 15/17 - Range Rover - Looks very beefy, has a phat power
plant, and even does well off road, although may be a little cumbersome
compared to more nimble models. Pure 'the vehicle to be seen in if your
rolling in it' calibre :).

There. I'd ban this conversation for being horrid and off-topic and
stuff but it amuses me, is clearly marked 'OT' and I'm bored ;)

To me the mac is like a harley and a ford.. Trusted reliable and built
to last forever. The new laptops are following the artsy trend away from
the desktop and I approve.

Kill the imac. Boost the emac and the G4 tower. The new laptops are a
good step. You have your pinto, granada, and the crown vic. Or in other
terms, the sportster, the shovelhead, and the roadking.

Speaking of such things, is Lucas (aka Prince of Darkness) still in
business?

Yup, hand in hand with Marelli, Son of the Prince of Darkness.
