OK, SyQuest is finally, mostly dead.
SyQuest Technology, Inc. went bankrupt in 1998. Iomega bought their technology but chose not to incorporate any of it into their existing products. SyQuest continued business under chapter 11 until the judge shut them down completely in early 2001. Infinitum, LLC bought the remainder of the inventory and the rights to the website. So, there you have it! URL for Syquest 230MB Cartridges !!
Check out this URL http://store.yahoo.com/7-24outlet/syqez23car.html I have purchased quite a few SyQuest cartridges from this source. I paid only $6.00 for each 230MB cartridge, about six months ago. Only several weeks before I bought them, they were only $3.00 each !!! Can you believe that ? Why did I wait ?? But right now the 230MB cartridges are still only $9.00 each (just went down one dollar), new, still in the shrink wrap. Still a bit pricey, but if you need the cartridges, I believe this is the best deal around, unless you buy used cartridges from eBay. I have had good service from 7/24. Bought another SyQuest EZ Flyer 230 Drive from them too, and still working great ! -- : - ) - Vern Andrews - - - - - Oregon Trail Descendant mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~~~ mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Andrews Research Education ~~ http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/VernAndrews/ http://members.fortunecity.com/vernandrews/indexresearch01.html -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Syquest
Hey I know this one! I picked up a Syquest 200MB drive at a local thrift. It can take 200MB Syquest cartriges as well as 44 and 88MB cartriges. You can still find cartriges for your drive at the Syquest web site. I don't know the address, but an internet search can locate it for you. I use mine all the time with now problems so far. Good luck and have a great Sunday. Scott -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Silverlining has a driver that will work with Syquest. I've used it on mine with now problems. Mine has the same 200MB on the case. I've used it on everything from a Classic II to a PowerMac with no problems save a SCSI cable that went bad. I just received the digest so if this has been answered I apologize. Good Luck. Going to try this straight from the website and see if it behaves... Syquest is out of business. Iomega bought some of their intellectual property, but... *shrug* I'd JUST gotten my wife a Sparq drive maybe a month before, too. (1 Gb IDE drive.) Needless to say, it was somewhat annoying! Re: Syquest info?
--- Bob C. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I was given a SyQuest 5.25 external cartridge drive today, much to my surprise and delight, but I know very little about them. Is there a web-site dealing with these somewhere? When I connected it to my LCIII+ running System 7.1 and started up, I immediately saw LED-activity on the drive, and I was presented with a notice that the drive needed to be formatted, so I clicked OK and about a minute later, the drive appeared on my desktop. And I had thought I'd need to install a driver! :-) The drive seems to have been packaged by Mitac in a very sturdy little metal case, but it's a branded SyQuest 5.25 mechanism with the designation 200 MB C marked under the media door. Does this mean it can take 200MB cartridges? The drive came with only one 88MB cartridge. Are these (and other sizes) readily available? Any information on this baby will be appreciated! Thanks. Some part of SyQuest is still alive and kicking, in spite of Iomega trying to kill them off. Hit http://www.syqt.com for info. Best thing to do is open the case so you can get the model number of the drive. Some of the older 88meg drives cannot write to the 44meg disks. That was fixed in later versions. I think all the 5.25 drives other than the early 88's are fully backward compatable. (Could be the larger capacities won't write to the 44/88 disks.) Don't bother trying the SyQuest software. It looks like it would be nice, if it actually worked instead of causing crashes. Just use whatever formatter you used on your hard drive(s). Most non-Apple hard disk drivers will also support removable drives so you don't need an extention loading at boot. That comes in handy should you need something off the removable when you have booted with extentions off. :) Otherwise you can just pop a removable disk in the drive (even Zip disks) before the Happy Mac appears and it will load the driver off it for use with all disks in that drive for that session. You should format ALL of the disks you use in the SyQuest (or Magneto Optical etc.) with the same software. Some disk drivers have nasty crash causing conflicts with each other. Iomega's Zip and Jaz don't seem to conflict with anything so you can use the Iomega software on them OK. Personally, with the exception of my Zip 100 and floppies, I format everything with FWB 3.0.2 just to ensure there won't be any conflicts. (I tried FWB 4.something but it clashed horribly with 3.0.2.) = The earth swarms with inhabitants.
