am about to bravely attempt to appletalk my 68k macs to each other, and 
then to my Linux-based network. are there any idiots guides out there to 
appletalking multiple platforms?

Three Macs and a Printer is pretty good.  AppleTalk on the Mac is basically
plug-n-play, and it's well-documented on Linux, though certainly not *as*
simple.

thanks. yeah, i was checking 3 macs and a printer, and the other refs on 
  the faq, which will certainly get me going for wiring my 2 macs 
together, the difficulty comes with the linux netatalk stuff, i've had 
very variable results with it (and im much better at linux networking 
than anything else!). worked beautifully talking to a G3 Powerbook, cant 
get it working at all with a G4 desktop. havent tried the 68ks yet but 
im fairly sure its going to be interesting...
