Double-tap and hold. Then swipe.

The double-tap and hold until you hear the tri-tone thingy means that
voice over has passed through your gesture and will now act upon the
item or element as if it wasn't running. When a sighted person without
voice over running wants to delete something they just swipe right with
one finger. However when voice over is on, a swipe right with one finger
reads the next element. So in order for the single-finger swipe right to
be seen as what it really does without Voice over, you have to do the
pass through first.

I suspect you know this already but want to ask so others can benefit
from the answer. I mean that as a compliment to you.

Hi,

Have you tried doing the pass through gesture, followed by a 1 finger
swipe left or right? This is the default gesture for deletion in IOS.

Scott MacIntyre's book

 Hi all,

I realize that this question probably does not strictly follow the

So, I wish to read the book called By Faith, not By sight, the autobiography

I wish to read the book on my Mac in any format which is accessible with

So, please let me know if you are aware of any website from where I can
purchase the book in an accessible format.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I seriously doubt such an app exists. I say this because I can't imagine
there not being some latency. It will be near real time but, not real time.
For example, the feed for the MLB at bat app has a latency of 30 seconds or
more to what's really happening on the field.

chance they will do this again.

Hi Chuck,

I assume you typed your message using Fleksy since your subject line is also
duplicated as the first line of your message. In the new version you can
turn this off in the settings. There is a heading called Email and the
first item after that is Include subject in body, it's a simple toggle, if
it's on double tap it and it changes to off and vice versa. I personally
like it set to off because I don't see a point in repeating my subject line
in the message body, it's not as if this is something I do if I write an
email in Outlook or that it is a standard practice.

The second item under email is the Signature, edit field and here of
course you can delete the default Typed with Fleksy signature if you wish,
replace it with a different one or leave it blank so you only get the
signature you set in your mail settings.

Re: Which twitter client is better?

2012-08-12 Thread Michelle McQuigge
Maria,
I'm currently using the standard twitter app. The layout is far from intuitive,
but functions you're looking for are there. Across the bottom of the screen are
4 tabs. You can view your mentions by selecting the tab called connect. Direct
messages and profile settings are under the tab called me. There's also a tab
labelled discover, but I haven't scoped out its possibilities yet.
Hope this helps until you find a different client,

Otterbox Impact Case and SpeedDots Screen Protector

2012-08-12 Thread Vicky Collins
I've had my Otterbox Impact Case with the SpeedDots Screen
Protector for a few weeks now. And, although I'm quite happy
with my purchase, I do have some questions.

First, I just kind of guessed and put the iPhone in the Impact
case, as I wasn't sure of the correct way. But, it kind of
looked like to me that the bottom part of the case where the
charger and speaker and the like are is the part of the phone
that goes in the case first, and then one pulls the top part of
the case over the top part of the phone. Is this the correct
way; or, does it even make a difference?

Second, when I kind of slowly run my finger over the keyboard,
say in a practice note, when I touch where each dot is, the
proper letter for that dot is spoken. However, once I start
trying to type a bit faster, when I hit the dot say for the N the
letter M might be spoken, or the letter P might be announced when
I hit the letter O. But, if I then tap that dot again, the
correct letter is then stated. I'm thinking this might be
correct behavior, as the dots are smaller than the space allotted
for each letter, although it has also occurred to me that I may
have put the screen protector with the dots on it on the phone
just a tad incorrectly. Thus, clarification on this would be
appreciated. And, as I'm in Kentucky visiting my family all this
week, I would have ready access to sighted assistance if needed.

Re: Which twitter client is better?

2012-08-12 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, many of us on list here recommend TweetList Pro. It has a lot of
great and wonderful features and the developer makes sure it also works
with Voice over. You can double tap a tweet to get options, double-tap
and hold a tweet for even more options, and tripple tap a tweet for even
more more options. You might want to give the list archives a read since
it's been discussed many times and that way you can see what others have
said. I highly recommend this one over the official twitter app. The
only thing TweetList doesn't have is push notifications for mentions or
direct messages. You will have to use a third party service for that
such as boxcar or push 4.0, or even texting.

Re: Otterbox Impact Case and SpeedDots Screen Protector

2012-08-12 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi Vicky. There is no real right or wrong way of putting on this case
onto the phone. It's stretchy enough that whether it's top to bottom or
bottom to top first doesn't really matter. Regarding your issue with the
speed dots protector, my recommendation is to remove the case. Then feel
with your fingernail along the left edge from top to bottom, and then
the same on the right edge. This is to determine if the protector is
slightly too far to the left or right. If you can feel the smooth glass
for example on one side, but not the other, then it's off centered a
little. Also, if you run your fingers around the corners of the phone,
make sure that you don't feel the edge of the protector sticking out as
that will also be an indication of a mis-aligned application. The nice
thing about these is that are reusable and so if you have to remove them
and reapply them, it can be done with little fuss. Just make sure to
have clean hands to avoid oils from getting between your protector and
the glass surface.

Good luck, and if I can help more, let me know. I have gotten quite
practiced at putting them on and would be happy to provide more assistance.

 Hi Chuck,

I assume you typed your message using Fleksy since your subject line is
 also
duplicated as the first line of your message. In the new version you can
turn this off in the settings. There is a heading called Email and the
first item after that is Include subject in body, it's a simple toggle,
 if
it's on double tap it and it changes to off and vice versa. I personally
like it set to off because I don't see a point in repeating my subject
 line
in the message body, it's not as if this is something I do if I write an
email in Outlook or that it is a standard practice.

The second item under email is the Signature, edit field and here of
course you can delete the default Typed with Fleksy signature if you
 wish,
replace it with a different one or leave it blank so you only get the
signature you set in your mail settings.

Re: deleting old tweets in tweetlist pro

2012-08-12 Thread jeremy
The only tweets you are able to erase are the ones you've tweeted
yourself. This includes regular ones, direct messages and replies. I
think you can go to your profile in tweetlist and under the section
where it lists all your tweets, you can delete them there. Only thing
is, if you've got a lot of tweets, this is going to take you quite a
while as you can only delete one at a time.

Take care.

hot spot shield?

2012-08-12 Thread Kliphton
Has anyone used this app on their iPhone or computer? Checking it out on
the iPhone now, seems to be pretty accessible, only thing is you need to
toggle it on and off in settings, general, network. If you do it in the app
itself, or the icon right next to Wi-Fi on the main screen of settings, then
it won't change. It's free for seven days, then 99 cent a month, or 10
bucks for the whole year.

Re: NFB Newsline

2012-08-12 Thread Steve
I have found some issues with the subscriptions feature, but it hasn't
crashed, at least if it did, it was only once and I don't recall for sure if
I was in that tab.

What I have noticed, is that if you try emailing an article to yourself from
the subscriptions area, the back to content button doesn't work on my
iPhone 4. Instead I have to hit the back button in the upper left, which
takes me back to the beginning of the section I was reading, not to the spot
at the end of the current article.

When I read from the publications tab, the back to content function works
as expected.

Adding Favorite Channels in NFB News Line

2012-08-12 Thread Chuck Dean
Be sure that your favorites are actually saved when you set then up on the
phone. BTW you can only set up the TV favorites on the phone..

I also had a lot of trouble setting up my TV guide, and now that it is all set
up, I never use it! It is difficult and slow to navigate..

I doubt this helps,.

Re: Otterbox Impact Case and SpeedDots Screen Protector

2012-08-12 Thread Rob Harris
I have to say, I had this combination, I'd tried and failed with the speed
dots thinghy; then tried again with this case, fiddled until I got it lined
up right, and then got the cover on over it without lifting any corners and
it's worked a treat since. This is a very good combination.

I wasn't sure of the correct way. But, it kind of looked like to me
that the bottom part of the case where the charger and speaker and the

one pulls the top part of the case over the top part of the phone. Is
this the correct way; or, does it even make a difference?

Second, when I kind of slowly run my finger over the keyboard, say in a
practice note, when I touch where each dot is, the proper letter for
that dot is spoken. However, once I start trying to type a bit faster,
when I hit the dot say for the N the letter M might be spoken, or the
letter P might be announced when I hit the letter O. But, if I then tap
that dot again, the correct letter is then stated. I'm thinking this
might be correct behavior, as the dots are smaller than the space
allotted for each letter, although it has also occurred to me that I may
have put the screen protector with the dots on it on the phone just a
tad incorrectly. Thus, clarification on this would be appreciated.
And, as I'm in Kentucky visiting my family all this week, I would have
ready access to sighted assistance if needed.

fleksy - typing tips

Hello,
've recently downloaded the trial version and am experimenting with
various approaches for typing. I type with a single finger when not in
fleksy, but there is probably a more efficient technique when using fleksy.
Two thumbs are a possibility, but you would lose time when reversing
your hand to flick with the index finger.

Any ideas welcome.

I personally am not comfortable with using my thumbs at all. What works
very well for me is holding the phone with my left hand, and using my index,
middle, and ring fingers of my right hand to type. I use my index finger
for letters on the left side of the KB, my middle finger for the middle
region, and my ring finger for the right region of the KB. This is how I
personally get the best speed.

Hi,

So there's this game I see a lot of people on my Facebook playing called,
song pop. It plays a bit of a song and you have to guess what it is.

I installed it this morning and no go, not even remotely useable with
voice over! This seems to be the norm with games on Facebook, like
Farmville cityville etc. I am curious if anyone's tried to contact the
developers and had any dialog with them on accessibility.

I wish we could play more of the social networking games like this.

Standard view is less friendly for screen reader users.
One quick example is that in Standard View, it is difficult to find the

Re: Audible update in the app store

2012-08-12 Thread Wayne Merritt
Sorry for the late reply. I did look at this time marker again in the
Audible app, and stand corrected. What I thought was a time elapsed
slider was actually just a time elapsed notation, and the only slider
was for playback position as you have said. Like you, I was only able
to jump in 30 second increments. I thought that there was a place in
the Audible app settings where this could be changed, and was sad to
discover that it could not be changed. The only item that you appear
to be able to adjust as far as time jumping is the amount of time you
are able to jump back in a title, such as when hitting the Jump Back
button that appears one swipe left of the Play button. Sorry for the
confusion. While informing Audible about this lack of accessibility is
a good idea, the app is still very much usable. It has become my
method of choice for reading my many audio books in the last month. In
other words, if I weren't able to listen to or move through any books
at all and this moving backward and forward were the only option, then
I would definitely contact Audible. However, other than jumping back
by a certain time, you also can move back/forward by chapter in the
title and set multiple bookmarks. While some things about the app are
quirky to be sure, I can still listen to books. Just my thoughts.

Regards,
Wayne

 Hi Wayne,

Are you using the Audible app and are able to do that? If so I'd be very
interested to know which gesture you use because none I have tried and

Audible did add a Playback Position control, but all you can do is flick up
or down and jump by 30 second increments which in the case of jumping back
is the same as using the Jump Back button. If you are not an Audible app
user, please reply to me directly, I don't think there have to be further
messages cluttering the list unless they provide information everybody can
 use.

RE: Which twitter client is better?

2012-08-12 Thread Joney
I think it really depends upon what you want to do with Twitter. If you
want the people you follow in lists, Tweetlist is probably the best to use.
If you want to have access to all your tweets I really like Twitterific.
Both are totally accessible and both are very good.

Yeah, that's my understanding as well. A Twitter client is just going to
go out to the Twitter site and cache a certain number of tweets on your

Re: deleting old tweets in tweetlist pro

2012-08-12 Thread don bishop
Just to clarify, I'm asking about the tweets which I assume are stored
in a buffer somewhere on the phone as they are with qube. When I get
new tweets, they're added above the older ones. If the oldest do start
to scroll out of the buffer at some point, how many does it take before
this starts to happen.

But, maybe I'm trying to compare this to the buffers in qube which may
not be a valid comparison.

Anyway, I'll just let them add up and see what happens.

Ah, well, if this is the case, then, yes. I miss understood. Perhaps I'm
wrong, but, I didn't think the tweets were actually stored on the device
anyways. Perhaps a small cache of them would exist on the phone, but,
this would constantly be changing as the client updated to new tweets. I
think this sort of thing can be done in clients such as cube, but, I've
never seen anything good come of using it.
Take care.

Take care.

Re: fleksy - typing tips

2012-08-12 Thread Michelle McQuigge
I'm a staunch member of the thumb typing camp, whether in Fleksy or anywhere
else. Like chuck, I hold my phone in portrait position and support it by
resting its back against my fingers. I use my thumbs both to tap letters and to
deal with swiping gestures in all directions. It works like a charm for me. I
know typing this way also lay behind one friend's conversion to Fleksy. He
couldn't manage to type properly with it using his old hunt p-and -peck
routine, but was off to the races as soon as he gave thumb typing a whirl. I
suspect he wouldn't be as down with the thong version, though. :)r

RE: help with entering street direction

2012-08-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ioana,

If it is not asking too much with respect of privacy, could you email me
back directly with the city, street name and house number? I use Navigon and
sometimes streets are difficult to find, for example, in Vancouver there is
a West and East Broadway. In order to enter, for example, the address of
Mountain Equipment Co-Op which is 130 W Broadway I first have to select just
Broadway, if I type in West or W I don't find it. Then once I type in
Broadway and it asks me for the number I type in 130 and if I tap Done at
that point it wants to navigate to 130 E Broadway, but if I go back and
flick down I now suddenly see that it gives me both options. Since it's
sorted alphabetically 130 E Broadway comes before 130 W Broadway so unless
you tap on 130 W Broadway it assumes you want 130 E Broadway. I h ope this
makes sense, maybe this will help you to figure it out, if not and you can
send me the address I'd be happy to take a look.

Regards,

Sieghard

Subject: help with entering street direction

Hi all,

Just got navigon and tried to enter an address. I typed street name but did
not find choice of east or west just main name. I tried it but the street
number was assumed to be in east rather than west.

Any thoughts?

Is there anywhere in the app a place for support contact info?

Also HOw do I mark favorites? I found a way to enter home address but thats
as far as I got.

Thanks for your help,

Ioana
