 Good evening everyone,

I visited an Apple store on Wednesday to have Apple care put onto my iPhone,
and had the pleasure of playing with just this beast. The sound quality is in
fact much improved, and while I don't think I'd call it on par with the
iPhone, it definitely sounds 1000% better than earlier iPod Touch versions. I
liked it so much that I'm considering purchasing one, however, like others,
am holding out to see what the iPad mini has in store for us.

Physically, the new Touch is taller, and narrower than the 3rd and 4th
generation devices, and it has traded the chrome backing for an aluminum
look, which I like very much. It comes in a multitude of different colors
too, which also appeals; I'm considering the blue. Like the iPhone5, it gives
us access to the extra row of icons, and I'd assume the additional 4 apps per
folder. Processor is much improved, and I love the allowance for a wrist
strap located in the lower right corner on the back. In short, very nicely
 improved.

My boyfriend has an iPad 2nd gen, and I guess because I started with an
iPhone 3GS, I couldn't get used to the larger size. Everything was just too
spread out for me, so I want to stick with the iPod Touch, but like I said,
the 4th gen has very poor sound quality unless you keep headphones on all
the time, which I just can't do. I will be purchasing the iPod Touch 5th gen

Re: questin about navigating emails using iphone gestures

Now, until you either double-tap / split-tap on the done button which you can
find by moving your finger around the display, or by pressing the home button
to return to the home screen, every gesture you perform will cause VO to
announce the gesture and then speak its function(s). Go practice and learn
until you know all the gestures. I usually never carry a keyboard with me.

 The gestures are:
 Touch the screen
 split-tap
One, two, and three finger single, double, and triple taps (if you activate
zoom or assistive touch at the same time, add another tap so it goes to four
 taps)
Four finger touch with the majority of the fingers on the top half or the
 bottom half of the display
One, two, and three finger vertical or horizontal swipes/flicks (its the same
thing) (finger alignment with each other does not matter, just all fingers
moving in the same direction, and enough space between each finger so VO
 detects the individual fingers)
The rotor - turning two fingers anywhere on the display like turning a
 virtual knob
The pinch - moving two fingers/thumb and finger closer together or further
 apart
The two-finger scrub - moving two fingers back and forth either horizontally
 or vertically
One or two finger double-tap and hold
The single-finger slide - actually, a normal gesture for iOS which VO also
 tracks.

The iOS gestures are solidly in the iPhone. If you find that VO is announcing
something different than what you believe you are doing, you are in error. It
is like pressing control x on your keyboard when you wanted to press control
 c.

Finally, be aware that, save for touching the screen to find something, All
VO gestures activate when you remove your fingers from the display.

Re: List Recorder Full version direct download available

2012-10-20 Thread Eric Caron
Hi Keith,

If you all ready have List Recorder and want the Full version then do the
following

start List Recorder
Go to get help from the tool bar at the bottom of the screen
Go to upgrade info and follow the directions.
By upgrading this way all the data in List Recorder will be available in the
new full edition and you will just have the one app with all your data.

It is actually pretty easy.

I hope this helped.

 Hi listers,

List Recorder can now be downloaded as a full version in one step. In the
past you needed to download the light app and then do an in app upgrade to
receive the full version. Now those who want to just purchase the full
version can do so. Be sure to download the version that says List Recorder
Full. One bonus for those who go right to the full version is that it is
$7.99 so it is a dollar less then purchasing the light version then doing the
 in app upgrade.

Those who just want to spend a dollar to try it first still have that option
using the original List Recorder app.

One thing to be careful of. If you are using list Recorder in the .99 cent
version then decide to upgrade be sure to do that as a in app upgrade or you
will not be keeping the data in the new app. List Recorder and List Recorder
Full are considered two different apps.

Re: When something else has control of my onscreen keyboard

2012-10-20 Thread James Mannion
I think what he was asking though is if there is a way with just the
IPhone in hand to release the other device from having the keyboard so
that he can get back his on screen keyboard without having to reach
for the device such as a braille display or bluetooth keyboard that
has the on screen keyboard locked away in a hidden state. I think the
only way to do what I just described and tried to make clear is to go
and turn off bluetooth. That may or may not have other consequences
not wanted at that time, but I think that is the only option in the
situation described.

iPod Shuffle

2012-10-20 Thread Stacey Robinson
Hi all,
I am considering purchasing one of the new iPod shuffles. Can anyone describe
the shuffle and what the voiceover is like?
I know from apple's website that it comes with earpods.
Thanks,

Re: When something else has control of my onscreen keyboard

2012-10-20 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Not true, the eject function does what he asked. It works for both
qwerty keyboards and braille keyboards. I don't know why it's called
eject, but basically when you press the eject keys, it brings up the
onscreen keyboard despite a hardware keyboard already being connected.

I'd suggest opening the keyboard help when you have the display

eject one, it will do what is asked in this thread. I just don't
remember what that cord command is since I no longer have a Braille
display. However I used to be able to do it from the Braille Sense

RE: guided photo pro.

2012-10-20 Thread Joney
It is a neat little app though, with the face identification that the newer
software for the phone has, you don't need it as much.
What you do is turn the phone so the back facing camera is facing you and it
will tell you where to aim the camera.
Up and left, down and right, then will say smile and will take a picture.
It only takes a headshot of you but it is handy for some profile pics.
Hope that helps.

With the iPHone, you delete books by going to Settings, choosing General, and

RE: voiceover during a call

2012-10-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Raul,

I wish Apple would fix it so that Voiceover simply either does not announce
the call duration or that it doesn't do so by somehow automatically focusing
it away from that. Moving focus away from call duration is not hard to do,
but it's a pain in the neck if I am answering a call with my headset and
have the iPhone on my belt or in an inside pocket especially in the winter
when it's under or inside a big coat; not everybody lives where it's warm
year-round and where down coats aren't needed because it's 20 or 30 below.
The way Voiceover currently behaves when a call is active is just not good
and while we are on the subject it would also be nice if Voiceover wouldn't
start reading push notifications or incoming text messages while I am on a
call. Once again, I know it's easy to stop this if I have the phone in my
hand and it's not hard to start a call and then turn off speech with a
3-finger double tap, but I often initiate a call when I am on the go by just
using the headset and telling SIRI to call so and so and it wouldn't be the
first time when I have to tell somebody who is talking to me to hold on
because a text message or push notification just came in and I have to wait
until it finishes reading it or I have to dig the phone out of my
pocket/take it off my belt clip to stop it.

I have, by the way, expressed these thought to Apple accessibility and I
hope others do it as well.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: How is OCR on iPhone 5 with iOS6?

2012-10-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Keith,

This was just discussed about 2 or 3 days ago when there was a thread about
Text Detective and Prizmo. In any case, the iPhone 5 has only a very
marginally improved camera and in fact has exactly the same camera as far as
the 8 MP sensor is concerned. They put a higher quality lens cover over the
camera and it apparently performs better in low light, but apart from that
it's the exact same camera as the 4S has. I have a 4S and from what I read
and have heard OCR is the same. If you compare it to OCR on an iPhone 4 it
will be a bit better since the camera on the iPhone 4 is only 5 MP, but even
there the improvement is marginal and the quality of your results depend a
lot more on how good a picture you are able to take..

Good evening everyone,

I visited an Apple store on Wednesday to have Apple care put onto my iPhone,
and had the pleasure of playing with just this beast. The sound quality is
in fact much improved, and while I don't think I'd call it on par with the
iPhone, it definitely sounds 1000% better than earlier iPod Touch versions.
I liked it so much that I'm considering purchasing one, however, like
others, am holding out to see what the iPad mini has in store for us.

Physically, the new Touch is taller, and narrower than the 3rd and 4th
generation devices, and it has traded the chrome backing for an aluminum
look, which I like very much. It comes in a multitude of different colors
too, which also appeals; I'm considering the blue. Like the iPhone5, it
gives us access to the extra row of icons, and I'd assume the additional 4
apps per folder. Processor is much improved, and I love the allowance for a
wrist strap located in the lower right corner on the back. In short, very
nicely improved.
