Re: ESPN radio.COM

2013-04-30 Thread Kliphton
I use this app every day with great success! That also might have to do with
the fact that I have had a log in user name and password for almost 2 years. I
got it when I first started reading sport storys on ESPN.com. You can skip the
log in and just listen if you want, it's the last unlabeled button at the
bottom of the screen. Otherwise, you can get sited help, create a user name
and password, this will make your experience much more successful. Good luck!

Hi. I heard a bit about the app today in a show. They were talking
about Siri and that some people are disappointed that it's not on every
iPhone. So with this new Google app, can you do the exact same things
you can do with Siri like calling people, sending texts or is it just
for searching stuff?

my time is valuable and unless I know what I am going for I don't have

be

most helpful so I'd know if it is something I would think spending the

Donald,

the idea is to drive listers to the website. If the person would have told
you outright what the subject matter was then you would probably delete
the

message. By giving you such little information and a link, the goal is for
you to be curious enough to click. At this point you are now on their

people do this as it makes me feel like I'm being manipulated, but this is
how some do things.

Re: any apps out there read perscriptions?

2013-04-30 Thread Eileens Misrahi
Hello,

I highly recommend that you visit the Digit-Eyes web site. Nancy M. has done a
terrific job on giving instructions on how to find barcodes to get you started.
Here are some ideas:

1. most times on a cereal box or on other food boxes, the barcodes will be on
the bottom or on one of sides.
2. For round cans, find the seam of the label and move to the left first to
find the label. However, the barcode may be to the right of the seam.
3. for barcodes on packages such as rice, chips, etc., find the seam on the
celophane or plastic bag and try all the corners.

These are just some suggestions. HTH.

I hope you're reporting these accessibility issues to Google. I think

Re: Google now launched for IOS.

2013-04-30 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I debated long and hard between an iPhone and a phone running Android
4.1 (Ice Cream Sandwich). I chose the iPhone because it did have better
accessibility, but I wouldn't have characterized Android 4.1's
accessibility as greatly lacking, and Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) is even
better with respect to accessibility. I agree Android has room for
improvement as far as accessibility goes, but so does everyone, since no

Re: How to be blind episode 45

2013-04-30 Thread Mike
Duly noted folks,

The only reason that that email was so brief and to the point was because I had
screaming children and other Chaos happening around me at the time. Perhaps I
should have waited to send it but I wanted to get out to you all as soon as
possible.
The how to be blind podcast is nothing new to this list even though I
understand many of the people reading this list are new. The outline of the
show usually never changes. There are articles about blindness, lots of apps,
and some extra random things thrown in for fun. That is how every single show
works so if there is ever a question down the road now you will know.
I do appreciate the feedback and will be sure to make sure to include details
in the future.

Personally, if there is absolutely no description I just delete the message,
my time is valuable and unless I know what I am going for I don't have time
to just pop in and see what the article is about. A brief synopsis would be
most helpful so I'd know if it is something I would think spending the
length of the cast worth my time. I for example would not want to her an
hour long podcast on At Bat as I am not a sports fan, only thing I want to
know is if the diamondbacks won and Siri will tell me that.

 Donald,

the idea is to drive listers to the website. If the person would have told
you outright what the subject matter was then you would probably delete the
message. By giving you such little information and a link, the goal is for
you to be curious enough to click. At this point you are now on their
website and can read about their many other offerings. I don't like when
people do this as it makes me feel like I'm being manipulated, but this is
 how some do things.

persons listen to the show, may I suggest that you place some sort of

iBooks changing pages help

2013-04-30 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I'm having trouble adjusting pages in iBooks.

I'm reading midway into Chapter 3 at about page 89, but I fell asleep for about
15 pages, and want to go back that far, earlier in the same chapter.

I find the double tap and hold and slide, but that seems to take me back to
beginning of Chapter 3 or Chapter 2. It announces, too, that I can swipe up or
down to change pages one at a time, but when I do this I don't get any page
change.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong (or, at least, not right). Can anyone point
me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance. Keith

WRITING IN MS XL SPREADSHEETS

2013-04-30 Thread Carol Pearson

Hi all,

I am looking for a decent way of producing spreadsheets either on my
phone (probably from a ready-produced XL sheet) and/or from scratch,
perhaps using a suitable program and a Mac. I am seriously now thinking
that I may purchase a Mac but the reproduction of spreadsheets is a
*must* so I'd value any feedback, please, on my options and just how
feasible this process really is in practice.

I have looked at IDatabase for the phone but cannot see a way of
importing a document into this (maybe too limited) database. I have no
further knowledge of what is out there that may be suitable.

All help most gratefully received. Thanks!

Re: WRITING IN MS XL SPREADSHEETS

2013-04-30 Thread Denny Schwab
Hello,

SQLed allows you to import a CSV file into a database. It does not
give you any good way to view the data though.

I have not found any other spreadsheet, or database, application that
works much better though. IDatabase does allow you to view the data
in a decent manner, but doesn't have any real good way to import data.
If your database is small, with only a few columns, you can try to
open your .CSV file from DropBox to IDatabase, and it will import the
information that way, but it hasn't worked too well as far as I have
managed so far.

Thanks,

Denny

Re: iBooks changing pages help

2013-04-30 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi ,

Touch the page chooser, which tells you which page you're on and to double-tap
and hold to switch pages. Flick up with one finger to go to the previous page,
or down to go to the next one. Or double-tap and hold, and slide left or right.
How far you move when you do this depends on how far and how quickly you slide
your finger. The more slowly you slide, the fewer changes you move through.

Another possibility, if you want to go to the beginning of the chapter, is to
choose the Table of Contents button near the top of the screen. This takes you
to a list of all the chapters. Double-tap the one you want, and you'll be at
the beginning of it.

Best,
Anna

Re: iBooks changing pages help

2013-04-30 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hello, Keith,

Use three fingers to slide up or down, depending whether the device is set to
slide the text or the scrollbar. You should hear vO announce page numbers, and
also a little chirping noise as the page changes. If you don't want to use
this method, you can note what page you're on, then find the search button at
the top of the screen and double-tap it. Type in the page number you want and
hit search.

Hope this helps,
Teresa

ship-rack question

2013-04-30 Thread don bishop

Hi,

I've been trying out ship-rack for tracking packages, but one thing I
can't figure out is how to delete a package once it's been delivered.
I double-tap the dlete button, but nothing happens. The only thing is
that a check-mark appears next to the package info, but I sure don't see
a way to actually delete the item.

Does anyone know of another good package tracking app?

Thanks,

recent issues connecting to the iTunes store

2013-04-30 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

So I’ve been having issues with updating my apps in the iTunes store on my
iPhone 4S. At first I thought it was just something with one or two apps or
perhaps one of those periodic store outages that happen from time to time.
However, this has gone on now for about three days and the updates that
aren’t downloading are starting to pile up. I currently have 7 updates in
the updates tab. Every time I either select the update all option or try to
just initiate the update on one app, I’ll get the error message of iTunes
cannot connect to the store etc.

I haven’t’ seen other messages on the list regarding this problem so I’m
wondering if it may just be me or maybe others are in fact experiencing this
same issue?

RE: recent issues connecting to the iTunes store

2013-04-30 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Hi,

I have been experiencing the same thing recently.

I seem to have gotten it to clear up by going to Settings, iTunes and App
Stores, signing out of my account, and then signing back in. I then went back
to the apps that were hanging on the update, opened them, and the updates
finished.

I hope this works for you.

Pam

Subject: recent issues connecting to the iTunes store

Hello list,

So I’ve been having issues with updating my apps in the iTunes store on my
iPhone 4S. At first I thought it was just something with one or two apps or
perhaps one of those periodic store outages that happen from time to time.
However, this has gone on now for about three days and the updates that aren’t
downloading are starting to pile up. I currently have 7 updates in the updates
tab. Every time I either select the update all option or try to just initiate
the update on one app, I’ll get the error message of iTunes cannot connect to
the store etc.

I haven’t’ seen other messages on the list regarding this problem so I’m
wondering if it may just be me or maybe others are in fact experiencing this
same issue?

Thanks,

Seeking your preferences on an easy to use productivity app

2013-04-30 Thread Catherine Mahony
Hello all
wondering if you can give me some advice on a really easy to use productivity
app which will work on my iPhone, on my Windows PC and my MacBook air. I like
remember the milk but not the newest iPhone app and I like reminders except
I'm having trouble navigating it on the MacBook air and don't know a way that I
can interface with it on my Windows PC. I've downloaded wonderlist but haven't
tried it yet. I'm wanting something that works really easily with Siri. Any
advice appreciated. Thanks. Catherine

RE: BeMyEyes: A ground braking product I'm a part of

2013-04-30 Thread Andrew Head
Vizwiz already does this. You take a photo record a question and it uploads
to a server and volunteers send answers back.
This is just my humble opinion, but if you skype or facetime a person just
to get the answer to a question like what can is this or the expiary date
etc, using vizwiz or even a scanning app such as text detective seems much
quicker and more efficient, and if you were to call a stranger ask your
question and have them answer you probably in less than a minute, seems a
bit pointless use of data and time consumption when there are already other
apps out there.
I agree when you have sighted family and friends as well as other apps I've
mentioned and others, I personally feel there isn't a need for this one.

Hi:
Hi:
Their are people who don't have access to family or friends that can help
them sometimes. However the technology already exists to do what is being
proposed. The idea of using volunteers and Skype or facetime has more
potential. If people are concerned with privacy and not giving away their
info all they need to do is set up accounts in Skype or email that they
don't care about.

 Hi all.

I'm involved in this cool project. Read more here:

Be My Eyes is a non-profit initiative that aims to equip blind with a
pair of eyes which fits into your pocket. This can be done by the
blind at any time, on his/her smart phone: you start an application,
and can through this be put in direct video connection with a
voluntary sighted person. The sighted volunteer helps you through the
camera in the blind person's smart phone to see (video transmitted to
the helpers smart phone) what the blind person is pointing at with the
smart phone camera and can solve a given task. The task could, for
example. be: Reading the date on a milk carton, see if two socks are
alike, read the buttons on the washing machine, etc.
 It
is the blind who has control over what the volunteer sees, while the
volunteer can for example say a little closer or date is on the
other side of the milk carton. This way the blind and the sighted
volunteer help each other to solve the given task.

The technical part of the project is, first, to develop an application
available for the blind that can connect the users with sighted
 volunteers
 -
here is so far developed a prototype. The second part is to develop a
system on a server that all Be My Eyes will run on. When you create a
user account on the system, you could choose whether you are the
visual impaired who needs help, or if you are the sighted person who
wants to help. The sighted help to be able both to use the system on
an iPhone (or other smart phone platforms), an iPad tablet (or other
tablet platforms) with a larger screen so it's easier to see

etc, using vizwiz or even a scanning app such as text detective seems much
quicker and more efficient, and if you were to call a stranger ask your
question and have them answer you probably in less than a minute, seems a
bit pointless use of data and time consumption when there are already other
 apps out there.
I agree when you have sighted family and friends as well as other apps I've
mentioned and others, I personally feel there isn't a need for this one.

The technical part of the project is, first, to develop an application
available for the blind that can connect the users with sighted

system on a server that all Be My Eyes will run on. When you create a

Re: Best weather app in the US

2013-04-30 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
Although it is a bit expensive, weather alert USA is by far and away the best
in my opinion. I am an extreme weather freak, even to the point of driving
everyone who knows me crazy. Therefore you can rest assured I have tried just
about every weather app out there.
Weather alert USA is about $20, but provides detailed 7 day forecasts and
notes, as well as more than 120 different types of severe weather weather and
other hazardous alerts for any specified area or multiple states and/or
counties at once. The app is completely VO friendly and I figured out how to
set it up and use it just by taking time to play around with it. I don't have
things memorized but the ease of use is such that memorization is not
necessary, all settings are saved in iCloud backups so if you have to restore
everything is restored to how you had it set up before the most recent backup.
