I would just do it on the phone. There's other tools but they are mostly
inaccessible and require iTunes anyway.

How to get photos off your phone using iTunes

2014-02-12 Thread Kathy Szinnyey
This is a bit lengthy, but if you have the patience and know-how, I'd
love a response!

--
smugly sent from my iPhone

you are neither special nor important. Severus Snape/The Buddha

Okay, I don't know what it is with me, but my brain gets scrambled
whenever I try to sync stuff. I have a bunch of photos that somehow
landed on my iPhone and I want them all gone. And I want to be sure I
have everything backed up or my husband will be very sad if I lose his
photos. So I think I have backed up everything, and I think everything
is encrypted, so I think I'm okay there. I was told by an Apple rep
that the way to get rid of my photos is to go to my photos tab which I
think I finally found, uncheck phots and click sync, and that's all
there was supposed to be to it. Well, first I couldn't quite find the
Phtos tab, so that was interesting. Then I think while going through
the iTunes 11 tabs I checked the radio button for info and I then
think I found the photos tab and clicked on that. Then I came to this
drop-down box under photos which I'm not sure I really got into. But
somewhere I did uncheck something in photos and then found the sync
button. Some of my photos went away, but I still have half of them
left on my phone. I don't have automatic sync turned on because I only
have a 16 gig device. I'm using the most recent updates of JAWS and
IOS, and I have an iPhone 4s. I have listened to Jonathan Mosen's
Itunes 11 turoiral and have Ios 7 withou the Eye, but I'm still
flummuxed. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be most grateful. Someone else
suggested I go to photos, then moments, and select the photos I want
to delete; there is a delete button but VoiceOver says unavailable. If
only I could magically turn my iphone into a plain ole hard drive and
just cut the files I don't want! Sigh!

Lords and Knights Update

2014-02-12 Thread Denny Schwab
Hello,

Lords and Knights had an update come out yesterday. I let it install
and then had some very major problems with the app. Here are the
issues I saw:

1. App would crash when i tried to open a large message in the message tab.
2. App would crash if I used either the virtual keyboard or a
Bluetooth keyboard in either the Message tab or Alliance Forum to
reply to a post.
3. I could use the character drawing method to write a reply in
either the Message tab or the Alliance forum, but could not delete any
character I had written with this method.

Anyone else have issues with this update? I tried to email the
support team for the app, but their form requires a graphicc to be
entered to proceed and I could not get the audio piece of that to
work. I have returned to the previous version for now.

Thank you,

Denny

Re: How to get photos off your phone using iTunes

2014-02-12 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

You can find your iPhone under computer as you would do any other
drive. If you navigate through the folders that you are shown when you
open your iPhone, you will eventually find all of your photos. If you
control + a to select all, you can just hit delete to get rid of them.
Problem solved.

Cheers,
Ben.

Hi,

If you're in the U.S., you need the NBC Sports Extra Live app, and you need to
log into it with your cable provider info. Picking a provider is inaccessible,
but the rest of the app seems to be reasonably accessible.

Best,

that the way to get rid of my photos is to go to my photos tab which I
think I finally found, uncheck phots and click sync, and that's all
there was supposed to be to it.

RE: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture

2014-02-12 Thread Don and Cher Bosch
Actually in this location, VO calls it a swipe also- and on the couple of
instances when I have been able to change the selection, it seems like it was
more of a long, slow swipe which finally triggered it. When I flick after
touching the screen to select the camera mode option, the focus almost
invariably just moves to the next or previous item on the screen instead of
changing the value- this is why I'm so totally perplexed.

Actually Alex, the area being discussed is a spot that requires a flick up or
down to adjust the value in the camera app to change the mode from photos, to
video, etc.

It is a up and down flick, which some people also call a swipe, but it is more
accurately described as a flick because you don't really want to drag your
finger on the screen, just hit it with a glancing blow, as it were.

I assume you mean the one-finger flick, to move from item to item?
First, don't make the move too big - a half inch to an inch is enough, I
find. Second, don't put your finger down and then flick or swipe, as
that usually leads to Voiceover thinking you are touching rather than
trying to perform a command. Instead, be making the flick gesture as
your finger hits the screen, so that the flick or swipe is interpreted
as what you intended from the start and there is less room for
ambiguity. It sounds harder than it is, I promise. Finally, make use of
Voiceover's practice mode (double tap four fingers, then do that again
or do a two-finger scrub to exit this mode).

Re: U.S. Olympic Hockey

2014-02-12 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Keith,

If you're in the US and you get cable, you can catch almost everything on
nbcolympics.com or through the iPhone app. The last time I tried the app, it
wasn't particularly accessible. Also, you can catch events on UsA channel and
NBC sports. To watch the streams on the website, you'll have to sign in using
your cable provider site's username and password for your account there.

I believe that hockey is usually on USA, and many complete replays are
available on the website. I don't currently have cable service, so have been
watching various videos on the NBC site to catch up with curling and hockey.

If someone has tried the NBC app, is it any more accessible than it has been in
the past?

Re: Please explain VO's swipe with one finger gesture

2014-02-12 Thread David Chittenden
No, it is a vertical flick to change the options in camera mode. VO says
selector which means use a vertical flick to adjust. If focus is moving to
another item, a vertical flick is not being used. It does not matter what you
believe you are doing with your flick. The only thing that matters is what VO
detects. If your vertical flick is not changing camera mode, activate the
gesture training with a four-finger double-tap and practice the gesture(s) that
do not seem to work consistently until they work properly 100% of the time.

I like the new selector. The camera now has four modes. The only mode I have
not yet been able to figure out is square mode. I will probably ask a sighted
person about it.

Actually Alex, the area being discussed is a spot that requires a flick up or
down to adjust the value in the camera app to change the mode from photos, to
 video, etc.
It is a up and down flick, which some people also call a swipe, but it is
more accurately described as a flick because you don't really want to drag
your finger on the screen, just hit it with a glancing blow, as it were.

Please, don't answer me that with the iPad is no way to make phone calls, and

The Bluetooth Keyboard VoiceOver Find Command: Where Does It Work?

2014-02-12 Thread Craig Werner
Hello, everyone.

When I was evaluating iOS text editors, I noticed that the Bluetooth
keyboard Find command (VO plus F, or Control-Option F) did not work.
When I searched for a string in a file, focus did not go to that
string. Instead, the arrow keys produced bizarre results. The
command works in Safari; at least it works in the tests I have
performed. I understand this is a problematic command. Can anyone
cite instances of where it works and where it doesn't?

Thank you.

I do not want stations at this point.

It says to tap and hold on an album to add it to your collection but
that doesn't seem to work.

I also tried tap and hold and swipe down but no luck.

Haven't checked out the roter yet for an action item but don't expect to

Any help appreciated.

iCloud Control Panel

Hi all,

Is the iCloud control panel reasonably accessible? I'd rather not spend a
lot of time installing it and trying to use it only to find out it's not
worth the time and effort. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

stuff when their old stuff stops working, they may not have your
interest at heart. From all I've read, the shallower the discharge of a
Lithium battery, the longer it will last. Deep discharge should be
avoided. If my iphones ever shut down at 12% I've not noticed it, I've
never let one get that low.

Modern LI batteries have electronics in them to keep the charge from

running a LI battery down that low. The only exception would be if

LI batteries will continue to lose their charge even if they aren't
being used, so if you run your battery all the way down and then don't
charge it for a while, you could cause some permanent damage that the
electronics is there to prevent. For this reason, always charge up a
device with a LI battery before storing it away for any length of time.
Also, since there's no harm in charging a LI battery, there's no reason
not to charge it up whenever it's convenient.

 these findings.

I charged my iPod Touch 5th gen to 100%. I then let the battery drain
by turning up the brightness to 100% as well as letting digit eyes
scan for 1 hour intervals as well as doing the same with Light
 detector.

I found that at 20% I will get a warning about low battery.

At about 12% my iPod Touch will lose speech and shut off. It will not
completely power down, but it will simulate a shut down as if I tapped
the sleep/power button on top of unit.

I then used the lightning connector cable to charge the device until
the speech came back on by itself at about 21 or 22% battery life.

Once again I unplugged the USB lightning cable to run the iPod Touch
on battery, and at 20% I again received a warning of low battery.

At about 12% to 14% the iPod Touch shut itself off once again.

Once the unit automatically shut itself off, I charged up to 22% about
3 times, so I think, despite the posted comments from Apple techs, it
appears as though the iPod Touch 5th gen might have been engineered to
present a warning at 20% and shut off at 12% battery life as those of
us on this list with the iPod Touch 5th gen are all experiencing the
 same thing.

I'm not at all alarmed by this. Should I be? I'm assuming a shutdown
at 12% of battery life is probably good in that it will protect the
integrity of the data on the iPod Touch. Letting the battery drain
significantly may result in data corruption, so I'd rather be safe
 than sorry.

Chris, the screen on the air is about what you would find on a netbook computer.

You can even buy a case for it that lets you slide the iPad Air into a holder

battery life. The builtin keyboard battery which is seperate from the iPad
battery delivers 2 weeks of typing and I get a lot of email before needing a
charge. It takes 3 hours to fully recharge the keyboard.

Re: Lords and Knights Update

I'm not sure what's going on with mine works just like it always has.
It occasionally crashes but so does every other app I use.

 Thank you,

Re: How to get photos off your phone using iTunes

As has been stated the img files are the pictures and videos. If you
want to keep them just copy them into a folder on your hard drive
which is what I do. Of course if you don't want them just delete them.
This is much easier than using ITunes.

Sigh!

Chris, the screen on the air is about what you would find on a netbook
computer.

You can even buy a case for it that lets you slide the iPad Air into a
holder and comes with a QWERTY keyboard. The air delivers a little over 10
hours battery life. The builtin keyboard battery which is seperate from the
iPad battery delivers 2 weeks of typing and I get a lot of email before
needing a charge. It takes 3 hours to fully recharge the keyboard.

Hi everyone,

We are recruiting volunteers to play a fun, accessible iPhone game, as
part of an accessibility research study. You can download our game,
DigiTaps, for free from the Apple App Store and play!

We are a group of accessibility researchers in the Computer Science
Engineering Department at the University of Washington. We have
created the iOS game DigiTaps to evaluate new accessible text entry
methods. The game will include a notice of informed consent so you can
make sure that you want to participate in the study before you start
playing. This study is completely voluntary. You may choose to stop
playing or to delete the game at any time.

Participant requirements:

Participants must be at least 18 years old. Our research is targeted
at people who are blind or low vision, so we encourage all blind and
low vision people to participate. However, sighted people may
participate as well.

If you have any questions, please join our Google Group and post your
questions at

If you're using an iPad, then you can't set up Kobo correctly. It only
works properly with VoiceOver on an iPhone or iPod Touch. You have to set
the page transition style to scrolling, which is not available on the iPad
 version.

 Hello Steph,

You need to sign up for an account on the Kobo website:
 kobobooks.com

You may then need sighted assistance to sign in on your iDevice.
However, once signed in, you never need to do this again.

 Cheers,

 Anne

 Hello Steph,

You buy Kobo books from the Kobo site and you can read them with
either the Kobo app on your IOS device or on your computer with Adobe
 Digital Editions.

The Kobo app is accessible but has to be set up correctly and the
 way
to do this keeps changing. Once it is set up correctly, you need never worry
about it again as the settings are remembered.

In Kobo, you can only read continuously one chapter at a time. I
happen to like this. You double tap the link at the bottom right of the
screen at the end of a chapter to go on to the next chapter.

 Cheers,

 Anne

Re: differences

2014-02-12 Thread Chris H
To be honest, I didn't know anyone with an Air at the time. I did
however know of somebody with a mini. So that's why I went for that.
However now I have the mini who knows the Air might be a future
investment should I need a future iPad.

Chris, the screen on the air is about what you would find on a netbook computer.

You can even buy a case for it that lets you slide the iPad Air into a holder
and comes with a QWERTY keyboard. The air delivers a little over 10 hours
battery life. The builtin keyboard battery which is seperate from the iPad
battery delivers 2 weeks of typing and I get a lot of email before needing a
charge. It takes 3 hours to fully recharge the keyboard.

I know the screen is somewhat bigger on the mini versus the phone but is

This is why I got a mini. I didn't need the larger screen of the air but at the
same time wanted a smaller iPad so the mini it was.

I actually believe the larger screen to be a negative for those of us who
cannot benefit from the screen itself. We are hampered by having to use a cane
or dog, so we are one-handed to start.

The most obvious difference would be navigation apps. That is mitigated to some
degree if you have cellular data.

Since I use a telephone very little, but data a whole lot, the perfect device
for me would be a Touch with cellular data. Unfortunately, Apple does not see
it my way.

Hi all.
this is a an example.
If someone ask you. Someone who knows that with a iPad is no way to make phone
calls, and knows the obvious differences between iPhones and iPads. ask you,
what are the differences between iPhone, and iPad, related with accessibility,
apps that can be use in each device, and functionality?
Please, don't answer me that with the iPad is no way to make phone calls, and
like the iPad is bigger than the iPhone. I am looking differences not looking
the obvious. I am looking something beyond the basic.
Thanks in advance.
