Re: At bat 15 question

2015-03-01 Thread Brent Harding
The one thing, if you want that to be able to hear the TV announcers instead
of radio, or to have someone watch with you, your local teams may be blacked
out of it until the game is posted later in the archive. I never could
figure out baseball blackouts, whether the Brewers might be blacked out in
the whole state of Wisconsin, or what, but the radio feed on At Bat always
did work.

Re: External Battery & Lightening Cable

2015-03-01 Thread shuang . angel
That is true. Another factor though might be how fast it takes to charch the
battery pack and how quick it charch up the phone.
For my 5000mah battery pack gets warm pretty quickly when it's charging the
phone.
Too bad, Amazon doesn't ship battery packs to Australia, and we got limited
choice and rather expensive choice.

Re: AfterSjokz blues and/or blues 2

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher Chaltain
This depends a lot on what you want to use your headset for. The
Aftershokz are bone conducting so the quality won't be as good, your
ears aren't covered at all and there is some noise bleed, i.e. those
around you will hear some sound coming from your Aftershokz. this makes
them ideal for listening to VoiceOver when you still want to hear the
noise around you, such as when you're walking about. They won't be ideal
if you really want to listen to the highest quality music you can from
bluetooth headphones.

I have the original Aftershokz, and they're the most comfortable
headphones I've ever worn. Of course, this depends on the size and shape
of your head. I've heard the Bluez 2 aren't as comfortable, but I
haven't tried them myself yet.

Comparing a 2500 MAH battery that is the size of a business card (thicker of

comparing the 5000 MAH one to a 12,000 or 15,000 MAH which would probably be

2500 MAH are plenty to recharge the phone and get you through the day if you

Re: External Battery & Lightening Cable

2015-03-01 Thread shuang . angel
Hi. I got a 5000ma battery for a size of a pack of cards and slightly slimmer.
So, what is the attraction of 2500ma battery pack?
And, my understanding is that there is no apple certify battery pack but Apple
lightning cable. That is two different things. Am I right or dreaming?

Hi All,

Are any of you finding that when doing a voice search in the Google app that it
is not speaking the answers? I do have Speak Answers turned on in Settings.
If I say "OK Google" and ask my question, the answer comes back on the screen

This is happening on my iPhone 6 and my iPad mini, both running IOS 8.1.3

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Google App Not Speaking Answers

2015-03-01 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Hi All,

Are any of you finding that when doing a voice search in the Google app that it
is not speaking the answers? I do have Speak Answers turned on in Settings.
If I say "OK Google" and ask my question, the answer comes back on the screen
and can be read with Voiceover, but it is not speaking the answer as it used to.

This is happening on my iPhone 6 and my iPad mini, both running IOS 8.1.3

Am I missing something?

Thanks.
Pam

Re: Editing text with Braille Display

2015-03-01 Thread Flor Lynch

There are probably a few ways to do it.
If doing it by Braille, What I do is:
Switch off contracted Braille;
Turn the Rotor to characters or words;
Go to the line the offending character's on;
press the cursor button on the display corresponding to the character,
press d-chord to delete.

Hello All,
I have a Focus 40 Braille display. When I press a cursor routing key, the
cursor is routed to the corresponding character.

How do you delete incorrect characters, and insert the correct ones?

Thanks.

Re: Kindle app and Voice Dream Reader.

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher Chaltain
In the US, passing on digital media is illegal, although you should
definitely check what you agreed to when you purchased the material,
sometimes a limited amount of sharing is allowed. Unfortunately,
breaking DRM even for your own purposes, is not clearly legal in the US.
For my part, and I'm not a lawyer, I think breaking DRM for your own
personal use is covered under the fair use act and is further allowed if
you're doing it for purposes of accessibility. Sony for example doesn't
think it's legal to break DRM for your own personal use even under the
fair use provisions but has not chosen to pursue this opinion in court.
Whether it's legal or not is one issue, but whether it's allowed under
the agreement you signed when you purchased the material is another
question. It may not be illegal, but the company could take action
against you such as revoking your membership or preventing you from
purchasing material in the future.

I'm not defending the DMCA or DRM provisions, but I'm just saying that
this is a complicated issue, and it isn't as easy as saying it's legal
to break DRM as long as you don't share the results. IMHO, people need
to read their purchase agreements and make their own decisions on what
they're comfortable with.

RE: External Battery & Lightening Cable

2015-03-01 Thread Vicky Collins

Hi Sieghard,

Actually, I do already have this model, as it is only the last
one in the list that I have just ordered but don't have yet.

Looks like this gives a 2500mah capacity according to:
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00P7JEUCI?d=f&pd=1&qid=1425225782&sr=8-1
The charger really is just about the size of a credit card, as I
just got mine out and put the two on top of each other. Also,
when taking my iPhone 6 plus out of its case and checking, the
charger is just a little thicker. As for the lightning cable
with its connector that goes into the iPhone, it kind of gets
tucked away in a little slot on the top of the unit. But, when
one pulls it out, one sees that it runs just about the length of
the side of the charger, with maybe only a quarter of an inch
less than that.

- Original Message -
From: Sieghard Weitzel Thanks for these links and reviews. I'd be curious to hear what
you think about the middle item in your second list of 3
chargers, this one:

[Apple MFi Certified] EagleTec OnTop Ultra-Slim Portable External
Battery Charger Pack with Lightning Connector for iPhone 5, 5C,
6, 6 Plus, iPod, and

iPad with Brainy Technology (Black)

When I looked it up on Amazon.com it mentions it has a capacity
of 22,500 MAH and is business card size with a thickness of 0.3
inches which converts to 7.62 mm, the diameter of a 30 Caliber
bullet for those who are gun savvy or compared to the iPhone 5S
and 6, it is basically the thickness of a 5S which is 7.6mm thick
and it would be a bit thicker than an iPhone 6 which is only
6.9mm. Anyhow, this sounds interesting, but I'd be interested in
how long the integrated Lightning cable is. Is it basically the
length of the unit which is about 3 inches or is it somehow
coiled around the charger and is a bit longer. If you do end up
ordering this maybe you could measure the cable length or ask
somebody to do so and post it here.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Re: External Battery & Lightening Cable

I'd never done anything with a battery charger before, but I
recently got curious, and I wanted one with a lightning connector
or cable. My buying place of choice is Amazon here in the United
States, and I recently purchased a few of these to try, and will
likely give whatever I don't want to a family member or two.
Best of all, all the packages so far were small enough that they
could be put directly in my mailbox by the USPS mail carrier, and
the orders were fulfilled by Amazon. They ranged in price from
just over $21 to almost $56, including shipping.

I misunderstood the first unit I bought, but kind of like it,
anyway, so will likely keep the product. It doesn't have a
built-in Apple cable, but comes with a cable one may use:

The next charger I purchased, and the site did warn about this
possibility, but the small lightning cable, due to its design in
being hidden away in the battery pack, just doesn't work with the
case I have on my iPhone, and I'll not likely be taking it off
every time I want to charge the unit:

I'll likely keep the last three chargers I bought. The first
two, I have tried them, and they do work with my phone in its
case, and I might even carry the smaller one, which will be the
middle one in this next list, with me. As for the last one that
will be listed below, I just saw and purchased it today, doing so
because it claims to have both an Apple connector, as well as a
connector to be plugged into the wall for charging, and the
product reviews were very positive. Now for those last three

there is always the chance of operator error, I would not be the last to

What I don't understand is why it didn't work in the first place.

Was it because you didn't have the correct password?

What you did in the beginning seems to me to be common sense and should have

Don, I knew the password. It was the same one I used a couple weeks before to
restore. Apple is as baffled as I am as to why it did not work. Of course,
there is always the chance of operator error, I would not be the last to
discover that something they thought they did perfectly was not the case. I
also tried a number of variants around that password just in case. But, who
knows, my fingers could have been asleep at the wheel that day. At any rate, it
was scary to say the least. I guess the moral of this story is the one that
people have been preaching on this list forever, and with good reason. Do not.
That is, do not ever lose your password.

Thanks, Don. It’s nice to see you on the list.

  Hi Neal.

  Very interesting and also scary.

What I don't understand is why it didn't work in the first place.

Was it because you didn't have the correct password?

What you did in the beginning seems to me to be common sense and should have
worked so the only conclusion I can come to is that you forgot your password.

Knowing you though and reading your message it doesn't seem to me that you
forgot it at all so what am I missing?

Haven't had enough coffee yet so my apologies if thats the problem grin!

Well, I got my new iPhone 6 yesterday. I really like it. However, today has
been a challenge. I had just restored my iPhone 5 from the encrypted backup a

new phone from the latest iPhone backup, the password did not work. I tried
many times with many iterations. I even had a sighted friend type it in just in
case my fingers were doing nasty things. No go. So, what to do. I knew Apple
was in no way going to help, and I am very glad they did not. It is nice to
know that my information is so secure that not even the real person can get the
information if the password doesn’t work. They could not figure out why it
didn’t work, but work, it did not. So I being what I thought was smart
thought, Well, I’ll just uncheck the encrypted checkbox and make a unencrypted
backup and restore from that. Some of you already know what happened. It would
not let me do that. Of course, I could be some stranger trying to get at my

So, I spent today syncing my phone and it did bring down all of my apps. No
passwords, and all the apps in a very different order than my other phone. I

and much much practice of moving apps, I struck gold.

I was on the phone with Apple, Verizon, much of the day. Someone finally
suggested a way. Backup from iCloud. Now before you wonder why I didn’t think
of that, I actually did. The sync didn’t download my contacts, so I went to
iCloud and did a restore from iCloud earlier in the day. It brought down the
contacts, but nothing else was changed. The apps were still in their random
order. Finally someone gave me the one piece of advice that saved me. I had to
first delete my iPhone in order to have iCloud bring down the place holders for
the apps and download them from the iTunes

Hi Vicky,

Thanks for these links and reviews. I'd be curious to hear what you think about
the middle item in your second list of 3 chargers, this one:

[Apple MFi Certified] EagleTec OnTop Ultra-Slim Portable External Battery
Charger Pack with Lightning Connector for iPhone 5, 5C, 6, 6 Plus, iPod, and
iPad with Brainy Technology (Black)

When I looked it up on Amazon.com it mentions it has a capacity of 22,500 MAH
and is business card size with a thickness of 0.3 inches which converts to 7.62
mm, the diameter of a 30 Caliber bullet for those who are gun savvy or compared
to the iPhone 5S and 6, it is basically the thickness of a 5S which is 7.6mm
thick and it would be a bit thicker than an iPhone 6 which is only 6.9mm.
Anyhow, this sounds interesting, but I'd be interested in how long the
integrated Lightning cable is. Is it basically the length of the unit which is
about 3 inches or is it somehow coiled around the charger and is a bit longer.
If you do end up ordering this maybe you could measure the cable length or ask
somebody to do so and post it here.

Best regards,
Sieghard

[Apple Certified] UNU Superpak 1mAh 3.1A Portable Charger
External Battery Pack with 2-in-1 Lightning Cable 8Pin and
MicroUSB Cable for iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 5S 5, Galaxy S6 S5 and other

The next charger I purchased, and the site did warn about this
possibility, but the small lightning cable, due to its design in
being hidden away in the battery pack, just doesn't work with the
case I have on my iPhone, and I'll not likely be taking it off
every time I want to charge the unit:

Charger with Integrated Lightning and Micro-USB Cables - 2600 mAh

I'll likely keep the last three chargers I bought. The first
two, I have tried them, and they do work with my phone in its
case, and I might even carry the smaller one, which will be the
middle one in this next list, with me. As for the last one that
will be listed below, I just saw and purchased it today, doing so
because it claims to have both an Apple connector, as well as a
connector to be plugged into the wall for charging, and the
product reviews were very positive. Now for those last three

So what do you use to remove the .DRM.

I totally agree that passing on books is illegal and I wouldn't want to know
for that purpose.

This answer below is correct, but there are fairly easy ways to remove DRM
from books. This is not illegal. Of course, passing on the unprotected books
to others is.

You can Google this, or you can write to me off list and I can give you some
pointers. I read Kindle books in my notetaker, or in Voice Dream Reader, or
wherever, once I have taken the time to remove the DRM.

  No.

Kindle, iBooks, and Nook books are DRM, Digital Rights Management, which
means they can only be read with their own app.

Voice Dream Reader can only read non-DRM books.
