Yes. It uses iBooks to read them. I don't think you can compose PDFs from the

Re: PDF attachments

2015-05-13 Thread Richard Turner

If you do a double tap and hold on the attachment, you will also find an open
in option.
If it wouldn't read, it is probably an image and it will need to be opened in
an OCR app.

Also, if the attachment is accessible, VoiceOver will be able to read it in

Kim,
After you open the PDF attachment, there is a share button in the upper
right-hand corner of your screen. Double tap the share button, and there will
be a series of choices. It will say "Open in" and give you a series of choices
of apps that you can use. Hope this answers your question.

Double tap that, and unfriend is an option.

PLEASE, PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP!

2015-05-13 Thread carol.pearso...@googlemail.com
Hi all,

I'm really frustrated with Status Report and being unable to authenticate my
FaceBook account with the app. (In my many attempts, it works if you have a
clean install of the app and/or the FaceBook app, but only once and then ...)

I do so like to be able to have a quick look and comment using this
straightforward app but seem to be going round and round in a never-ending loop
of signing out of FaceBook and then in ... but getting nowhere.

I have tried, in times past, to contact the author of the app but without any
response.

If anyone has got this to work successfully and to remain working over a long
period, please let me know your secrets; otherwise, I guess there's no real
help forthcoming, unless anyone knows of another good app for combining both

RE: photos on iphone.

2015-05-13 Thread Vincent Thacker
Hi, Christopher,

You don't say what version of Windows you have, but I can say that this isn't
usually a big problem in Windows 8.1, at least in my setup.

I plug my phone into a USB port, then press Windows key plus E to start file
explorer, and there are all my libraries of stuff such as documents and
pictures, plus all the drives further down the screen. One of the drives is
called Vince's iPhone. If I press Enter on that, it shows a folder on the
iphone called DCIM, I press Enter on that and get a folder with a number, and
when I press Enter on that, I can get at the contents, photos or whatever. I
usually select them all with Control plus A, then copy with Control plus C, Cut
with Control plus X, navigate to a folder on the PC where I want to transfer
the material, and press Control V to paste everything.

Pretty much the same as moving files around the PC,, in fact.

Hope that's some help.

Vince.

Re: How do I improve dictation with Siri

2015-05-13 Thread Keith B.
By all means, enunciate as clearly as possible. One night, I was dictating
a text to the chair of our church board, and I began by saying "Thank you
very much". I thought I had enunciated clearly, but I received a smiley
face back from the guy I sent the message to saying, "I didn't think you
used that language!" Sometimes dictation can be humorous!

Re: cleaning up an IPhone

2015-05-13 Thread Keith B.
Hi, all. There is an app in the App Store called Kruptos (don't ask me
where it got its name) that will clean up junk files on the iPhone, which
will generally give one a little more storage space. Also, I use an app
called Battery Doctor, which, though not the most accessible, can be used
to clean up junk as well.

This is how I copy the text of an email:
After putting the focus of voice over in the body of the email, just double tap
and hold.
After you hear the sound, release your finger, and you will hear a pop sound
and a little menu will appear.
Just flick up or down to cycle through the choices. You would first want to
double tap on select all, to select the text of the email. Then flick up or
down until you hear copy, and double tap to copy the email to the clipboard.
Now you are ready to go to the other app and paste in your email.

HTH,

Chris

I don't think there is a default for screen brightness since actually by
default I believe auto brightness is turned on and it adjusts screen
brightness based on how much light is around you. Keep in mind that in a
darker environment it is not necessary to turn screen brightness up very
high, 75% is actually very bright and way more than what is usually needed
unless maybe you were in direct sunlight. In a room where it is not too
bright people can actually see and read the screen even at 0% brightness, it
is just harder and may not be possible from the side, but normally around 40
to 50% is plenty.

Yes, you will have to turn off the screen curtain and then increase the
screen brightness.

Yu should be able to do this with Voice Over while the person is looking at
the screen, probably around 75 per cent should do it but mine is still on
default, let me know if you want me to find out what the default is set to.

Radium update for iOS

2015-05-13 Thread Mary Otten
Has anyone tried the update for Radium that came out yesterday? Given what
happened with their most recent OS 10 update, I admit to being somewhat
reluctant to just assume accessibility will still be there once I upgrade. I am
wondering if some brave soul has given it a shot and what you found.

Re: Sending Via Whatsapp a text From Email?

2015-05-13 Thread Chris Chaffin

This is how I copy the text of an email:
After putting the focus of voice over in the body of the email, just double tap
and hold.
After you hear the sound, release your finger, and you will hear a pop sound
and a little menu will appear.
Just flick up or down to cycle through the choices. You would first want to
double tap on select all, to select the text of the email. Then flick up or
down until you hear copy, and double tap to copy the email to the clipboard.
Now you are ready to go to the other app and paste in your email.

HTH,

Chris

Also, as far as I know this only works if Voiceover is running and it’s
definitely not a recommended method and apparently it can lead to corruption of

Absolutely no reason to reboot unless you like it, tht is daily reboots.

Most times when you encounter something strange just press the lock switch 5
times or 6 to be sure and the phone will reboot without a restart.

RE: Showing A Picture In My IPhone5 To A Sighted Person?

2015-05-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don’t think there is a default for screen brightness since actually by
default I believe auto brightness is turned on and it adjusts screen brightness
based on how much light is around you. Keep in mind that in a darker
environment it is not necessary to turn screen brightness up very high, 75% is
actually very bright and way more than what is usually needed unless maybe you
were in direct sunlight. In a room where it is not too bright people can
actually see and read the screen even at 0% brightness, it is just harder and
may not be possible from the side, but normally around 40 to 50% is plenty.

Yes, you will have to turn off the screen curtain and then increase the screen
brightness.

Yu should be able to do this with Voice Over while the person is looking at the
screen, probably around 75 per cent should do it but mine is still on default,
let me know if you want me to find out what the default is set to.

Having allowed the app to use both my microphone and camera I made a connection

black and they could se nothing through the camera. I disconnected and tried
again but exactly the same thing happened. Can anyone who uses this app please
advise what the problem might be?

RE: Boarding Pass/Passbook

2015-05-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Scott,

If both of you have an iPhone and each can have your boarding pass I think that
is much more efficient. If both of your boarding passes are on your phone, you
have to hand it over so the agent can scan your boarding pass, then he/she
would have to give the phone back to you, you have to unlock and get the other
boarding pass to display, hand it back so they scan it. Why not just each have
the boarding pass on your phone?

Re: Christianaudio app

2015-05-13 Thread Patti Johnson
OThey offer about four free downloads, two I saw before signing in, and
two after I did. I think once you get those, then the books you have in
your library that you have previously bought should show up.
The app is not the best accessible wise but my error was not immediately
signing in, and I had to do some getting in and out of it several times
before I found that button. A lot of the buttons are not labeled.

I plan to write to them about this.

Christianaudio is as I say the same type service as Audible.com, but
the material is Christian oriented, teachings, sermons, Christian
fiction and nonfiction, classics. Their website is
www.christianaudio.com
You can sign up and get credits built up, and buy your books with credits.
You can get one a month or as much as 8 a month I think it is depending
on the type of subscription you get; and they keep building up. So while
you pay for the membership I use my credits to get books.
I love it. It is the only place so far I have been able to find the
books my pastors have written.
Well except for another site I can't think of its name you can get texts
of Christian material and maybe audio bibles, but I read my pastor's
book and there were errors in it.
Anyhow I digress. It is just a site to get books that are of a
Christian nature.

Hope that helps.

Christianaudio now has an app where you can listen to all your content
on your ios device, just like Audible.com.
I am most excited about this. It's been a long time coming. Just
wanted to let you all know in case any one is interested.

help with battery gauge

2015-05-13 Thread Maria Chapman

HI. am writing this on behalf of my brother Dave.

I am having strange behaviours with my battery. Most of the time, I don’t get
any kind of notification when the battery is at 20 or 10 percent. Also the
battery will sometimes cut out at 10 percent, sometimes 14 percent and
sometimes I manage to get to about 3 percent but this is very rare. I have
googled how to recalibrate the battery and followed those steps. This worked
for a time but only for about a week. Is there anything else I can do to get
the battery working correctly?
I am using a 4s. I am waiting for the new phone to come out in october so
please no suggestions of buying a new phone.
thanks
Maria and Dave

Me and my sister maria, have both experienced this problem, and written to

Re: re-booting the phone

2015-05-13 Thread David Chittenden
This method crashes the springboard forcing a partial reboot. Apple does not
recommend it. It only works when VO is active and should be considered a bug,
not a valid way of rebooting the iDevice. It is the only method which ever
damaged an app on my iPhone 3 years ago. Use it at your own risk.
